Photos and illustrations are a tool used mainly in graphic novels and throughout chapter books. These images help the reader visualise what they are reading. For example: "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" now imagine next to this there is an image of a fox jumping over a dog. Helps you out a little.

Definition: A glossary is a Dictionary of the book that lists definitions of certain words in alphabetical order. In the textbook, there are certain words that are bold, highlighted, or marked in some way. These words probably has a definition, found in the Glossary that is located right before the Index.
Benefits: As said before, the Glossary is, put simple, a build-in dictionary in a book. This is good for several reasons, the main point being that it's very convenient. If there is a marked word someone doesn't understand, they can just flip to the Glossary and look up the definition. A point to add is that since it's in Alphabetical Order, finding definitions are much easier.

Definition: A Diagram is similar to a picture, but there are some big differences between them. A diagram is always labeled, and helps the reader understand steps, information, and some sort of process. Usually reading Titles, names, captions, and numbered parts helps the reader understand the diagram better.
Benefits: To begin with, a chart is usually hand drawn. (Like this eyeball, much less gruesome and concerning than a picture of a real detached eyeball.) This is pretty beneficial because first, a hand drawn diagram can show the interior of something, like mechanism or parts, in a clearer (and less gruesome and messy) way. Second, it makes seeing the labels and parts harder to see on a picture. A diagram is also convenient because the convenience. This is my own thinking. So, take this eye for example. I want to know more about the choroid. With a diagram, you can type in a search bar, "choroid" instead of looking up "the layer of the eye" then "Outermost layer of the eye," and then "Choroid." Diagrams make life so much easier :)
