Pictures of Barnaby in the supermarket, park, post office, statues, etc.</p><p>Talk about the key features of the areas that Barnaby has been to and talk about if they are human or physical features.</p><p>Map work identifying the key features of the local area that Barnaby has been to on a map. Look at the key features of maps - can they recall the key features from reception?</p><p>Children should use the iPads to explore an ordinance map of the local area. Children will complete a treasure hunt to find all the local landmarks/features that Barnaby has been to.</p><p><br></p><ul><li><p><strong>Assessment:&nbsp;</strong></p><p>Recall the key features of maps from reception.</p></li></ul>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>See if they can draw a bird's eye view of their bedroom or the school. Show the Birds Eye view picture of the city as a model. Ask children to face the direction that Lucy is facing ('can you face north, like Lucy?'). Teacher can observe the children that understand, pair the children with more confident partners and ask them to use BeeBots to follow teachers instructions of compass directions. </p><p><br/></p><p>Learning outcomes; enquiry skills, maps skills (scale and location) and direction skills. </p>]]></description>

Why do they think the animals moved in the ways they did? For example, 'Why did the racoons slink down the alley'? </p><p>Assessment - Formative assessment and observations to check understanding of spatial thinking and awareness.</p>]]></description>

Discuss the story and highlight the importance of maps in helping characters navigate.</p></li><li><p>﻿﻿﻿Map Creation: Have students create their own simple maps of a familiar place (like their classroom or playground) </p></li><li><p>﻿﻿﻿Feature Identification: Show various pictures of maps and ask students to identity different features </p></li></ol><p>Assessment Opportunity: Observe students during the map creation activity to assess their understanding of map features. Ask questions like, "What did you include on your map?" or "Why is this feature important?" This will help you gauge their grasp of the concepts discussed.</p>]]></description>
