Tip: Use a timer the first few times!

Example:

• 30 seconds to think.

• 1 minute to pair.

• 2 minutes to share.

• Reading:

You can ask "what did the main character learn?" or "what do you think the moral of the story was?"

• Science:

"What is condensation, and how does it form on a cold drink?"

• Social studies:

"Who do you think made the most money during the California Gold Rush?"

• Math:

"How do you solve this problem?" or "What type of problem is this?"

You can use this when you want students to:

• Reflect on what they are learning or have learned.

• Build confidence in speaking.

• Practice engaging in deeper thinking.

• Practice respectful listening.
