In my class, once I was trying to teach humanistics:philosophy , I chose one video from the internet. However, although I simplified the questions, and played the Video several times, it is still difficult for learners to understand. So I think authentic materials are too authentic, fast in speed, difficult in pronouniciation.but it is cartoon, learners in fact are interested in watching cartoons. So I learned that we really really should get to know a lot about our learners.

I use at my lesson 2 audios. 1 short audio with the same text on the paper as a warming up. Because it's really hard to listen to original texts without help. Students listen to the 2 audio without text. It works.

I think YouTube is a great resource because it provides a wide range of resources for learning English, especially for younger learners. I like the following resource: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GhloS3jaIWI&vl=en for teaching young learners at a beginner's level about clothes. It is a great resource as it is bright and vibrant. It is an audio and visual resource, engaging the learner with both reading and listening skills. Possible disadvantages could be the pictures are not animated, making it a little less engaging for younger learners. That said, I would definitely recommend it as an engaging resource for younger learners.

I really like YouTube as my resource for different ages and levels. My students love it and very often share some useful or funny videos with me, which show their interest in learning English outside the class. The disadvantage might be poor Internet connection, or limited access to it in some places. Anyway, I use it as an additional resource, and never had a single complain from students.

This page offers a variety of different activities based on interesting texts. The activities connected with text cover reading, listening, writing, spelling and games. I have checked the activities linked to the text entitled 'World's oldest bread recipe found' and I must admit they are perfect to support learners whose aim is pass exams for certificates or at university, who need to practice reading with comprehension skills and vocabulary as well as listening. All in challenging exercises and game like activities. The text and exercises are adapted to levels 0,1,2,3. In my opinion the text is great for young adults and adults who would like to broaden the knowledge of the world. The disadvantage may be that the subject of the text may not cover the interests of every single student, but I'm sure the text and exercises appeal to most of them. I would recommend to check this site to practice exam oriented reading and vocabulary. Furthermore, a teacher can easily think of
speaking activities based on the text.

Resource picked : www. breakingnewsenglish.com
I was really impressed about the clarity of purpose , the versatility and simplicity of options to be used ( not to be taken as something not requiring a conscious effort by the students involved ).
Since it gives a choice of news articles to read , listen to , discuss about and even write about and doing so at different levels of English already attained by the learners , it simplifies the teacher's task which is optimizing the conditions present during ' classroom time' , monitoring students' responses and giving , at the end of each exercise some immediate feedback to the class.
I find that even at the lowest level ( 0) of English advancement , it could be too involved for a beginning student who does not have any of the basic skills ( Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking ) and who is starting to learn words, phrases, pronunciation, syntax and basic grammar. Therefore , it appears to me this resource is suitable for the intermediate level student up the highest possible level . It would never cease to be useful even for advanced level learners , not to mention also certified English teachers , because it is about what's going on in the world , taken from diverse areas of interest .
One possible disadvantage could be to choose a topic without consideration for the perceived cultural sensitive topics of the students participating. In the case of teaching abroad , it would be wise to refrain from discussing any news relating to sex , religion , politics and ideologies in most of the countries where the teaching takes place , even at the receiving end of an online course .
