They were also the sons of Ixion and Nephele or a Centaurus and the Magnesian Mares.  In one of the myths Pholus, a Centaur was at the wedding of Peirithoüs when he uncapped a jar of wine and all of the Centaurs came and fought the wedding guests. Hercules had to fight and  kill all of the Centaurs.
