<title>British passports that expire after 29 March 2019 will continue to be valid as UK travel documents, but will lose the power that comes with being a European Union passport – notably the right of free movement within the EU27. Any British passport issued up to (or on) 29 March 2019 will be valid as a full EU document until 11pm on that date. After that, British travellers become “third-country nationals,” and complex rules about passport validity come into play.</title>

<title>The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) allows any EU citizen to access state medical care when they are travelling in another EU country. In the event of a no-deal Brexit, UK registered EHICs will no longer be valid.ABTA has always advised holidaymakers and business travellers to make sure they have appropriate travel insurance, whether they have an EHIC card or not, as there are limitations to EHIC.When travelling in the EU and beyond, it is important you take out travel insurance and check that it covers your current circumstances, including any medical conditions. If you have an annual policy, make sure you check the Terms and Conditions and contact your insurance provider if you’re not sure.</title>

<title>The past 12 months have been challenging for the wider UK economy, with inflation outstripping wage growth and a continued assault on the value of the pound providing the backdrop to the year. Despite this, our research shows that the underlying demand for holidays remains very strong, and more British people are taking more holidays than at any time since 2011. The travel industry has a history of adaptation and innovation and it continues to be incredibly dynamic, with travel companies evolving and innovating to meet the needs and desires of their customers.</title>

<title>As the UK and EU prepare to negotiate for a future trading agreement, and to put in place transitional arrangements, ABTA is publishing research to demonstrate the importance of UK travellers to the economies of all EU countries. The report also reflects on the importance of the industry to the UK.We have looked at every area touched by travel and tourism, from macro-economic impacts on national economies and employment levels, through to the number of businesses which are supported across the continent. The research demonstrates the huge appetite for overseas travel across the EU, and quantifies how UK outbound tourism, in particular, has positively impacted lives, stimulating economic growth, providing jobs and supporting businesses.</title>
