It is shown though out by making it look like the world has its own thoughts. This contributes to the meaning of the poem because it shows us that no one appreciates Dickinson's work. For one, the message and “her” could very well symbolize Emily’s love for Susan. Dickinson could be using the “hands i cannot see” line to symbolize not being able to see Susan, whose message of love is committed. And I think that the final two lines could symbolize how others would think of their affection for one another if it was public. The last line, “For love of her, sweet countrymen, Judge tenderly of me!” could symbolize her love for Susan. The words “world” and “nature” could be symbols for Susan, because of the way that Dickinson sees her.

She says that the world never wrote to her, and I think this could translate to the world not providing any opportunities for her. I think that “hands i cannot see” could hint to her not being able to communicate her abilities well enough because of sexist barriers at the time. The last line also brings out a feeling of discrimination, that she is judged because of her love for “men's work”
