Albert and Ben have a caring relationship. Albert says, “You had teeth like mahjong tiles……kids were already calling you all kinds of names.” Albert did not want his son to be teased about his teeth, and since he could not pay it in one go, he decided to bring Ben to Uncle Reggie’s clinic instead since he could pay in instalments there. Ben is concerned about Albert’s financial situation and was not willing to get braces. Albert was concerned for Ben’s well being, and was willing to spend his money to fix Ben’s teeth so that he would not get teased by other kids anymore. Hence, I can conclude that both of them care deeply for each other.

We can tell that both Albert and Ben care for each other when Ben says, “But I told you two years ago…that I didn’t need them!” And Albert replies, “You needed them, Son!”

From this evidence, we can infer that Ben cares about Albert even though he wants braces for himself he still is thinking in his father’s shoes and how expensive it would be for their low-income family, he knows Albert would feel stressed and have to work more shifts. Meanwhile Albert is thinking about Ben and is convinced Ben needs braces as he could not stand watching Ben get bullied and teased. From here we can see they both care

“you were crying like a little girl at night after the kids teased you” showing thatAlbert could vividly remember how Ben cried when was bullied as a kid and he noticed it. “You didnt smile for a whole year. Do you know that” showing that he remembered that he did not smile. “You had teeth like mahjong tiles bursting out of ur mouth”and Although he said it in a mean way it was his way of showing care for Ben. Albert shows his love and care through his actions rather than words, he does not know how to express his love which was why his words were so harsh. Albert secretly got Ben braces by paying uncle reggie instalments which cause more than government even though they have financial difficulties so that Ben does not have to endure the bullying from other kids. Which shows that Albert cares for Ben’s his social life which will impact his mental well-being.

This statement can be improved. Albert and Ben had a caring relationship. Even though Albert means well, he does not know how to express it to Ben. Albert says,”. You had teeth like mahjong tiles bursting out from your mouth…” and,”The kids were already calling you names for being half Indian and half Chinese.”. This shows that Albert was caring as he felt guilty as he could not give Ben the same level of care that his mother had given him. As a result of that, he opted to pay instalments at Uncle Reggie’s clinic for his sons braces despite of his financial situation.
