I chose this connection because I was interested in the "fog" idea from the text OFOTCN. Reality vs illusion seems to have a correlation with societys views of sanity and insanity. Is a schizophrenic person insane simply because of a confusion surrounding what is reality and what is simply illusion or hallucination? Or is reality simply our perception? This idea is most important because our views change so much over time. Perhaps our perception is changing as reality and the environment we live in, changes as well.

1) To what extent are women portrayed as the 'weaker sex' in literature? What might we learn about the portrayal of women by applying Feminist and Marxist perspectives to readings of the same texts? To what extent might feminism be regarded as a restoring of human dignity?

2) I chose this topic because I am interested in how women are objectified in the media and in literature. I want to find out - or think I will find out - that patriarchal agendas are present in most texts, even those that are portrayed as 'girl power' type of texts.

3) I chose my texts because, in them, women seem to be considered only in relation to their male counterparts, rather than as human beings in their own right. My texts are linked to the ideals of 1950s America, McCarthyism, the Cold War, as well as contemporary American society. The setting of two of my texts is a future, Dystopian America. However, all of my texts deal with historical and current ideas of patriarchy and feminism.

1. What is the effect of prison, what evidence shows this? how was 1960s prison portrayed? The hierachy of prison, whos at the top of the food chain?
2. I chose this Topic because of interest into the thinking of prisnors and what they go through as they arent your normal sort of characters in texts as they go through which most of us have no idea about.
3.I chose texts like San Quentin Song lyrics by johnny cash as he is very abrupt in his points and is reresenting a prisnors feelings, and the film Cool Hand luke because the main character is in a extremely similiar situation as McMurphy, but on a work farm prison. The last text will most likely be a short story written by an American prisnor, so they all relate quite closely.

My texts are linked through mental illness; some texts connect through the death of a loved one and some connect to being in a mental asylum. Some books portray living with a mental illness in different decades i.e. 50's,60's,70's'90's etc and also how society treats them society being those around them i.e. peers, family etc.

I consider insanity and mental illness to be different things. With mental illness being a physical problem with the brain as an organ. While insanity is thinking differently to your society. As such my first question will be what is sanity? My second question will be; Does it matter? Do the insane need to change to societies sanity? Or should society make room for the insane? Another possible question could be is it better to stay as you are or change? Is it better to die a hero or live as a monster?
