I'm Darren Cambridge (darren@umd.edu), managing director of TRAILS. Although I can't lead a seed project, I would be interested in discussing joining a team in some capacity if there's a good fit. I'm interested in learning technology, social learning theory, conversational AI, and translational research. To a team, I can bring experience with prompt engineering, social science research methods, project management, adult learning design, and writing and producing media for a wide variety of audiences. I may also be able to leverage also connections to educational and community organizations in DC, nationally, and internationally.

If you're working on a project involving the public understanding of AI, including misinformation, mental models, or perception, I'd be happy to talk more. I'm a linguist, and also bring interests/skills in sociolinguistics, speech perception, experiment design, and bias in language (specifically spoken language). Also, if you have a study that you need a diverse range of human participants for -- and you'd be interested in coupling that with an educational message for the public -- it might be a good fit for us to run through the Language Science Station at Planet Word. Seeking U.S. "Mirror" Projects (Gov/NGO) to Ruta N for a comparative AI Trust & Governance Study

I’m Marisa Magana, a Colombian Fulbrighter and doctoral Candidate at UMD. For TRAILS, I've been working with Dr. Shilton on exploring PAI. For this year's seed funding, I want to use my current collaborating with Medellín’s Ruta N on their "Ciudadano 360" initiative, which focuses on building public trust through participatory AI governance, to make a comparative work on AI governance! I know no funding will come for projects that focuse solely abroad, which is why I am looking to connect with a U.S. municipal office (like NYC OTI or San Jose’s GovAI Coalition) or an NGO (like Partnership on AI) that is implementing similar trust-based frameworks. Hence, I’m looking for a warm introduction to practitioners or policy leads at these types of organizations that could lead to them accepting to join the study!
