Most of the manufacturing in U.S. was done in north. The taxes got higher.</div><div>2. Stories of cruelty have been greatly exaggerated. The Compromise of 1850 was an attempt to smooth out the confrontation between the slave status of territories acquired during the Mexican-American War (1846-1848).
