         <title>Woolly aphid infestation - Eriosoma lanigerum [Hausmann]</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Infestion with E. lanigerum was first noticed in April 30th on lower branches and continue to spread throughout the recording period.   <br><br>Kelderer et al. (2016) evaluated the effect of different methods for the control of woolly apple aphid in organic apple growing.<br><br></div><div>·&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Spray applications of Polithiol, an emulsifiable suspension containing 400 g/L paraffin oil (CAS N.97862-82-3) as active substance and 5-10% w/w sulphur, 1 in late autumn and 1 in early spring significantly reduced <em>E. lanigerum </em>infestation. One application of the product in spring was also effective to control this pest</div><div>·&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;A single application of slaked slime in autumn showed to be ineffective for control.</div><div>·&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Intensive pruning combined with anti-hail netting increased woolly aphid infestations. Long pruning (as few cuts as possible, weak growth stimulation) showed lower infestation levels but percent infested shoot length values remained high.</div><div>·&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Reduced infestation levels were found in rootstocks of Geneva G11 and G41, and M9 Pajam 2.<br><br></div>]]></description>
