IS EDUCATION AS WELFARE POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE? (Question #2) [Sec. B] by Barry Goldenberg

Katz does make the argument that the U.S. is unique in how its public education system has developed. Regardless of if you think the U.S. system is welfare, do you think education, and our schools specifically, *should* be welfare? Why or why not? (Or, put more simply, do you think that is a productive part American society or something that is problematic that education *is* or *is not* welfare?

Because of the systems in schools, students do better in school, which leads to them doing better in life, down whichever path they choose. It is also positive because welfare ensures that students grow up in a safe environment with education being the effective care needed.

James Sears
Natalie Sarkisyan
Myha Bui
Brandon Rivera

Our group discussed and believed that school welfare is a positive aspect, because it brings lots of opportunities for families. School does not only focus on education, it also provides programs that help low-income families provide for their child. For example the government provides a free lunch program that lets students from low income families eat lunch for free. This is a positive aspect because the students are well fed and can focus on learning instead of being hungry and not focusing.
Viridiana Hernandez
Audrey Co
Paola Alejandra Becerra
Mohammad Amirkhalili

It's always better to have more resources and assistance, rather than having none.

Jessica Kim

Education provides students with more than just learning academics, and by providing every student with an equal opportunity to learn, our society will flourish.
