I recall doing this in elementary. I would visit a first grade class and read together with an assigned student who was learning how to read. It was exciting to help. At the school I’m currently in they draw and write on the floors. I have not seen this implemented in the schools I have visited but one. An instructional aid took it upon herself to create a garden right in front of the classroom. She grew flowers and tomatoes and would have the students in her class help. It was very engaging. At a school I substitute at the 5th grade classes create their own games and after a week of creating they invite 4th graders to join and use tickets to play and win prizes.
