The political reasons behind this would focus on the glory and the military. Say a leader conquers a powerful country, the glory he receives would make him a legend. This is one political reason behind imperialism, the other being military. In the case of a war, you want as many people fighting for you and as many places to launch attacks from. This is why many countries conquered other countries and built strategic military bases, such as the ones along the African Coastlines.

Source 2 and 3 go together showing that they didn't care about the possible endangerment of some animals and would even force natives to gather these drops, and they killed many of these animals just for greed of resources and money. The last source shows that these soldiers and imperialist goals were to just gain more and more wealth and resources from their territory and gain more ground, to just have more, and force the natives to another religion with their own religion, Christianity)
