Alexander Bell was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, on March 3, 1847. His mother and wife were both deaf. When he was young him and his dad always worked on mechanics of voice and elocution. He is known for inventing the first working telephone but he made many other inventions too. When he made the discovery of the telephone he had a lot of trouble getting it out there. He had trouble finding investors; even after he found some there were many people suing him saying they had the idea first. Some of the cases even made it to the supreme court but none of them were successful. When he was done with all the complications he started a successful telephone company. He died August 2, 1922, in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Oliver Evans was born September 13, 1755, Newport, DE. He was always good at math and had a great interest in engineering. Like most men during his time he worked at the mills, which was a very hard and intense job. He later proceeded to buy some land from his father along with his brothers. In the land him and his brothers started a grain mill but the process to turn wheat into flour was very hard, dirty and tedious, so that's when he started his inventions. After a few years he perfected his inventions which were 5 machines the worked together that made the job a lot easier, faster, and took less manual labor. Hos inventions were recognized everywhere and even the president recognized his fine work. He later turned his interests to the stem engine; he did not invent it but he did improve it. He made the first "high-pressure" steam engine which is faster and more portable. He was a very successful and wealthy man, he died in New York City on April 15, 1819.

He is known as the "father of the American factory system." He worked at the mills at a very young age but as he grew up he got promoted. He knew how to work all the machines and how the machines worked themselves. Slater studied all the machines and found out how they were made. He moved to the U.S. to become wealthy by bringing all of his knowledge from the technology back from Britain. Slater with the support of many was the first to build a water-powered cotton spinning mill in America. The Rhode Island System was the system Slater had created which was a village the housed all of his workers at the same sight of the mill. The village had workers of all ages and had a store and school owned by Slater himself. It became very popular and successful and he made many of these villages all over the country.
