         <title>Rutherford - The Father of the Nuclear Age</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>1.</strong> Rutherford described the atom, having a tiny, dense, and positively charged core called the nucleus. He also said that negatively charged electrons circulated around the nucleus.<br><br><strong>2.</strong> The sketch is attached at the top.<br><br><strong>3.</strong> When Rutherford was studying the effects of x-rays on gases, he decided to try and investigate atoms more closely by shooting tiny positively charged alpha particles at a sheet of gold foil. When he did this experiment, the atoms thinly dispersed, the positive charge wouldn't be enough to deflect the particles in one place. While most of the particles did pass through, some bounced back. <br><br><strong>4.</strong> After this experiment, Rutherford concluded that atoms consisted of largely empty space with just a few electrons, while most of the mass was concentrated in the center, which he termed the nucleus.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>
