Edward Higgins White, II was born on November 14, 1930 in San Antonio, Texas. His father was a West Point graduate who served in the United States Air Force. I became known as a pioneer in aeronautics, beginning his military career by flying U.S. Army balloons. My father had a career of a military officer, the family moved numerous times to various Air Force bases around the country. As a result, I learned to adjust to new situations, people and places, and I was also considered to be a very good student and an excellent athlete in whatever school he attended.

On June 3, 1965, I became the first American to walk in space. When I ventured outside the Gemini capsule into the vacuum of the cosmos. I was selected to be in NASA's Astronaut Group 2, which is an elite group of nine astronauts including me that have been selected for the Gemini program. I was ready for my mission to start and for me to accomplish achievements that people could not do. When we finished out mission we all felt that something was wrong and that Neil's leg was caught up with some wires and we couldn't let him out and before we noticed our rocket was caught on fire.
