"Won't Stop Running" is voiced by Chad King who makes up one-half of the musical duo A Great Big World. King is the speaker because he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2007 and is responding to his doctor who said he would be paralyzed within 7 years. Chad's purpose for writing the song was to remind the world of "human potential" and to be an example of the light that can be present in the world. The subject of the song is perseverance and not giving up even when the odds are stacked against you.

Chad King acting as the speaker attempts to tell his doctor that he "won't stop running," despite his diagnosis. He uses the appeals of logos and pathos in the lyrics in addition to ethos and pathos in the video to get this message across. In analyzing the lyrics and video, it appears that King's use of appeals is effective in convincing his intended audience.

When King says, "I'll take another sunrise, another hand to hold tight" he is voicing his inclination to keep living and to live alongside loved ones. This makes sense as most people want to experience more beautiful things like sunrises, and they want companionship while having these experiences. "For seven years I made it through the falls" and "I'm tearing off the labels" also fit logos because in reality Chad King and A Great Big World have been literally defying odds. King rejected the prognosis and expectations of a man with MS as well as gender stereotypes being a gay man. Pressure from A Great Big World's hit "Say Something" was also immense on the duo, but they didn't let that or the media influence their song writing.

As a 34 year old man Chad King is very young, and he voices this in the line "I am way too young and I won't stop running." He was even younger when he was diagnosed with MS at age 27, but this concern is turned into motivation. "But it's hard to see stars when you're always caught in the folds" is also a statement that rings true with many because often the dark cloud of a struggle can make it impossible to see the light at the end of the tunnel. It becomes hard to focus on anything but your hardship.

Chad King uses phrases like "lights out" and "hands tied" to evoke feelings of darkness and hopelessness near the beginning of his song. When the lights are off you can't see anything, and with tied hands you are unable to do anything or control the situation. "This isn't over" can also sound like the problem is overwhelming, and the repeated use of it in the lyrics makes it seem like it will never end. But, in the song the phrase is paired with a building piano part that conveys a hopeful and inspired tone, emphasizing the fight isn't over.

"I wanna love and be the one who is loved" appeals to a basic human desire that many people can relate to. This sentiment evokes feelings of longing and empathy for King. His line "And suddenly I'm able, scaling walls" is inspiring and speaks to the part of us that wants to do things that are deemed impossible and defy odds like King did.

Chad King uses examples of pathos and logos in his lyrics to paint a picture of the struggles he faced and what he felt during those dark times. In addition, he also outlined what overcoming those struggles felt like and who he is today. The music video enhances these points because of the symbolism, imagery, and people used. The video combined with the lyrics sends an overall inspiring message to listeners and viewers that King, and many others, will not stop running.
