The Change:
At first Eadlyn was disagreeing with her parents that she should undergo a selection but later she decided to do it,

The Evidence:
Before the change:
"The selection process was very successful for us.And though my parents had their problems , it worked well for them too. So ... we were hoping ..."He hesitated and met my eyes
                                                                 I was slow to pick up on their hints. I knew what the Selection was , but never , not even once had it been suggested as an option for any of us, let alone me.
"No"
Mom put up her hands,cautioning me."Just listen-"
"A Selection" I burst out. "That's insane!" (page number 14)

After The Change:
"It's getting really bad, Ahren. People are destroying homes and businesses.Some have died .Dad isn't completely sure where it's coming from, but he think it's people our age, the generation that grew up without the castes causing most of it." she says this as if she knows she has no choice but to do this since she is a royal and it is her duty.(page 21)

"He ran his hand across his mouth and shifted in his chair a little before pressing his eyes into mine."Eadlyn you know how important this is, don't you?"
"Of course" I replied instantly, very aware of how serious this was . I sensed one wrong move would set my life on a course I could never correct .
"You need to do this and do this well . For everyone's sake .Our lives, all of them , are given over in service to our people." I looked away. If anything, it felt like Mom,Dad, and I were the trinity of sacrifice here, with the others doing as they pleased.
" I won't let you down " I promised. (Page 28)

The reason why:

The Change:
In the start Eadlyn thought that the Legers had decided to be a childless couple but later she realized why they had no child and they had not chose to be a childless couple. To her this proves her Mother's statement about how she is not as observant as she thinks she is so because of this she starts to pay attention to things deeper.

The Evidence:
Before the change:
"All these years I thought the Legers had chosen to be a childless couple"(page number 47)

After The Change:
"Miss Lucy' s struggles had never made it into conversation when I was in the room, and she seemed content enough to play with us as children and send us on our way. I'd never considered that it might have been an unfortunate circumstance thrust on them.
Was my Mother right was I not as observant or caring as I thought? Miss Lucy was one of my favorite people in the world. Shouldn't I have been able to see how sad she was?" (Page number 47)

The reason why:
Eadlyn always thought that she was perfect she basically had no flaws but when her Mom made the statement "You seem shut off in a way, disconnected from your people . I know you are constantly worried about the worries you will face as queen, but it's time you see the needs of others." " You don't think that I do that now ?" She pressed her lips together. " No,honey.Not if it comes before your comfort." (Page 45)
She got lost in a deep thought which was interrupted by the Soft crying sounds of Ms Lucy that's when she heard Ms Lucy speak about her miscarriages, failed tries to her Husband and thinks that her Mom might be right.

The Change:
At first she hated that Kile ended up in the Selection then later when she could just eliminate him from the contest she did not eliminate him.

The Evidence:
Before the change:
"Ah! From Angeles." I ripped at the paper pulling out the final entry. I knew my smile must have faltered , but really, it couldn't be helped."Mr. Kile Woodwork"  ( page number 57)

" Kile's name being in there shouldn't have shaken me the way it did. At the end of the day, none of these boys stood a chance. But something about this felt wrong"(page 57)

"Excuse me!" I protested. "This is unacceptable . Is anyone going to  do anything about it?" (page number 58)

After The Change:
"I came upon Kile next. Unlike most of the others , he didn't avert his eyes. On the contrary he stared into mine , and I could see him pleading for me to end his misery and get him out of here" I might have if I didn't think his mother would kill me as I would surely have to make him leave the palace and If I hadn't seen his name on most signs yesterday . Of course, Kile was a the hometown pick, so maybe the crowd was biased. Still, I couldn't get rid of him.Not yet.(page 95)

The reason why:
She thought that the reason why she did not let Kile leave was mainly that Kile's mother would get upset with her but she also mentions that she saw his name on most of the signs people were holding so that means people had an interest in him so if she would evict him those supporters would loose interest in the selection , interest and distraction was what she was mainly trying to do.

The change:
 Kile had opened up to her more and because of that she had developed feelings for Kile over time.

The Evidence:
Before the change:
" Kile's name being in there shouldn't have shaken me the way it did. At the end of the day, none of these boys stood a chance. But something about this felt wrong"(page 57)

"Excuse me!" I protested. "This is unacceptable . Is anyone going to  do anything about it?" (page number 58)

After the change:
"Goodnight,Eadlyn." He gave a quick kiss on the cheek before heading toward the stairs that led back to his temporary quarters. I watched him go and told myself that the only reason I was smiling like that was because the cameras were hidden somewhere , not because of anything Kile Woodwork had done."(page number 116)

The reason why:
The reason why Eadlyn had changed her feelings toward Kile and actually developed feelings for him was because he opened up to her showed her some of things that she had never even thought he did. for example: he showed her is sketches of architecture.

She started to get excited about the Selection and actually got more engaged in the selection.
 
The Evidence:
Before the Change :
"Nope," Ahren blurted, moving us to a new path "So help me, Eadlyn ,if I have to drag you by your hair through this I will , but you've actually go to participate in the selection"(page 118)

" Listen, Eady , I know this might have been the wrong way to go about it, but I do think it's good for you to have someone in your life. I've been with Camille a long time , and even if everything ended tomorrow I'd be a better person because of her.There are some things you don't learn about yourself until you let someone else into the most intimate places of your heart."(page 119)

After The Change:
"But his words , above anyone else's made me wonder if I should at least try"(page 122)

"I was wondering if you would like  to join me for dessert tonight after dinner."(page 122)

The reason why:
The reason here is Ahren because he encourages her to at least try and participate in the selection because he wants her to have a happy life , find true love like he and Camille did.

 Eadlyn thought that she could give the selected a chance so she took Jack to watch a movie with her but when he misbehaved she as a result got stronger and warned the other boys, took precaution and realized how much her brothers loved her.

The Evidence:
Before the change:
"He caught up to me, grabbing me again. I didn't want to admit how scared I was , but I could feel the icy strands of fear pulsing through my veins . He was bigger than me and seemed to enjoy a fight.
"Don't run off" he said silkily . "And I'm only trying to tell you that I think I could be a good fit for you, an easy match."
He ran his fingers down my cheek and under my jaw . His breathing was speeding up, and I knew I couldn't waste time . I had to get out of here now.
I squinted my eyes . "And I'm only trying to tell you that if you don't remove your hand you will be dead before you could be a match for anyone" (page 188)

After The Change:
"Jack gave a fake pout. "You sure sweetie,I wouldn't mi-"
I'd never seen Ahren throw a punch before . It was almost as shocking as Jack's limp body after my brother's fist forced his head to whip at an awkward angle."(page 190)

"I looked around at my brothers,so caring,so smart and so puckish . So many times I'd hated them for not being older than me , for forcing me into a role I never wanted .Tonight, maybe for the first time , I loved them for exactly who they were"(page 192)

"Before , you go gentlemen , I have one last question; and it comes from some very recent history , so you all had better get it right" They nervously murmured among themselves ready for the challenge ."If you know the answer, feel free to just shout it out.Ready?When is it acceptable to put your hands on me without my permission?" I stared at them all stone-faced,daring a single one of them would laugh , they exchanged glances with one another , but it was only Hale who was brave enough to answer.
"Never" he called out.
"That is correct. You'd all do well to remember, Jack Ranger was let off easy,with nothing more than a punch to his face by my brother and the shame of his ejection.If another one of you attempts to touch me without my consent, you will be caned or worse. Are we clear?" (page 199)

The reason Why:
Because of Jack misbehaving with her she realized that she might not be that safe and she took more precaution and when her brothers had her back when she was in trouble she ended up having more affection for them.
