He entrusted the Church to the Twelve.
- Also known as episcopacy meaning "overseer"
- The Bishops are direct successors of the Apostles.
- The Bishops possess the fullness of the Sacrament of Holy Orders. They have the full authority that was given to them by Christ.
- Only those who have been ordained Bishops can minister the sacrament of Holy Orders.

Task of Bishops 
- Each bishop is entrusted with a specific diocese, in which he acts as Christ's chosen representative and the legitimate pastor of all faithful. 
- Visible sign of unity within the diocese
- Responsible for the celebration of sacraments. 

Bishop Conference: regular meeting, which they discuss and adopt pastor policies, issue statements on social issues of concern, and implement and make recommendations on policies for the church in their particular country.

Priests of the church are co-workers of the Bishops and are assigned to carry out certain tasks of the apostolic ministry. The priest celebrates mass in the Person of Christ and acts as the Bishops representative. Priests can administer any sacraments except Holy Orders, which must be carried out by a bishop.   • Unlike bishops and priests, however, deacons are not ordained for priestly ministry; rather, they are ordained for the ministry of service

    • Tasks of Deacons:
    • to assist the bishop and priests in the celebration of divine mysteries, above all the Eucharist, in the distribution of Holy Communion
    • in assisting at and blessing marriages
    • proclamation of the Gospel and preaching
    • presiding over funerals
    • dedicating themselves into the various ministries of charity 

    Types of Deacons:
    1) transitional deacons:     men who are preparing for ordination to the priesthood and are usually ordained as priests about a year after their diaconal ordination
    2) permanent deacons:     deacons who do not receive priestly ordination
