Vicki was diagnosed in June 2019, entered a clinical trial and fought with such heart and bravery. She died on Jan 1st, 2020 at 63 years young. I miss her so much. My friends and I are running a marathon in her honor and to raise funds for PanCan - reading these stories broke my heart but lifted my spirits. One day we will find a cure.

I am surviving, I was diagnosed 9/15/19. Fortunately my stage 2 tumor was in the head/neck of my pancreas and I underwent Whipple Surgery 10/3/19. After 7 Folfirinox chemo treatments, my liver was suffering so we stopped chemo. So far, I've had 2 clear scans. I pray to be in the very small group of those whose cancer never returns. And I pray that the 10% five year survival rate grows to 100%. Thank you PanCAN!

Many of you know me as Michelle PanCAN, the Sacramento Facebook Admin. I got involved with PanCAN in the Bay Area way back in 2005 after I lost my Dad in July that year just 8 months after diagnosis. I'm still volunteering with PanCAN 15 years later doing what I can to raise awareness of this disease and hopefully inspire others to share their talents and volunteer as well. One person CAN make a difference - just take that first step!

In 2014, my sister in law set up our very first PurpleStride Team in support of my mom, Debbie Fisher, through her fight with Pancreatic Cancer. Oh Boy! There were so many friends and family that came out that first year to show their support. My mom was so moved. PurpleStride is such an amazing way to show love and support when you don't always know the right words. We lost my mom in 2015, but the Walking Warriors will keep coming back to honor her memory.

Steve changed my life and the life of countless others through his incredible mentoring, his belief in people, and his belief in paying it forward. In 2015, he passed away due to pancreatic cancer, but everyone touched by him surely takes a little bit of him with them. PurpleStride is one way I strive to “be the Steve I miss in this world” and pay it forward.

We are walking for my dad. He passed away from a 3 1/2 year battle with Pancreatic Cancer, February 15th 2020. Our family has been talking about doing this walk ever since he was diagnosed. We never made it happen, but now we feel its a great way to honor him, bring awareness and fundraise for PanCan. We have a big group of family and friends joining us on our virtual walk. We will be making this an annual event!

Ron Duke

2015 started off as a wonderful year, full of anticipation of all the fun things to come. We were planning our next trip to Hawaii, and more trips to Bodega Bay. Our Grandson was starting Kindergarten in the fall, and his first year in youth sports. Baseball, football or soccer, whatever he decided to play, grandpa would have a front row seat. Ron was also excited to start working on his latest acquisition - a beautiful 1967 Buick Skylark. Lots of plans and excitement for the future!!!
In a single afternoon all that was shattered, and our lives were forever changed! His first symptom appeared, and the blood work came back with alarming results. This threw us into a flurry of Dr. appts., tests and scans, all leading to the devastating diagnosis of Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer.
Biopsies, invasive procedures, then surgery, followed up by 10 months of the most grueling chemo therapy available. He was a warrior's, warrior. He was...my soul mate, and best friend. In 2016 he became my guardian angel.
Ron wasn't alone in receiving this diagnosis. 55,000 people in the U.S. received the same devastating news in 2015. Fewer than 10% are still with us today. This is why I volunteer, and why I'm so passionate about spreading awareness and why I stride today! I stride for Ron, and everyone impacted by this viscous disease.

My son and I have been to all 10 Purplestride Sacramento. The walks have grown so much over the years. It's amazing to see the awareness and donations grow each year to help fight this deadly disease. Our first walk was in Napa. That's where we found an organization and people who gave us hope and not feel so alone. The pancan community is a wonderful way to give and have support.
We miss both of you so much.
