¡Buenos días! Me llamo Brianna. Soy de Mooresville, Carolina del Norte. I am currently in the nursing program. I enjoy hiking, being at the beach, and staying active in my free time. In middle school and high school, I took three years of Spanish, but have not had any experience with it since my sophomore year of high school. I do not have any connections to the Spanish-speaking world. After this course, I hope to have a better understanding of the Spanish language and I am able to use some of my knowledge to further my career as a health care professional. I would like to travel to Spain because I have always been interested in their culture and the many sights of Spain. In my free time, i really enjoy reading, hanging out with my fiancé, whom I am marrying in 8 months! I am very active and love being outdoors or at the gym. I took 2 Spanish classes in high school, but haven't really used much of my knowledge since then. As an elementary education major, I hope to be able to really learn the language as best as I can since there are so many Spanish speaking students that need help overcoming that language barrier. If I could travel to one place in the world, it would probably be Australia. I have always been so interested in their culture and I just feel like it would be such a fun place to visit. From the video, I learned that there are so many ways to use Spanish that I feel can easily be overlooked. I think that knowing Spanish is so important in my field of study because, like I mentioned before, it is useful to communicate with all students, and even some teachers/administrators. Hasta luego! Hola, me llamo Landon. Soy de Charlotte, North Carolina. I am currently studying business and have not found a specific concentration. I like playing sports, surfing, and reading. I took 2 years of spanish in High school, but have not practiced speaking it since. I really hope to getting better at speaking spanish from this course. My vocab is not terrible, but sentence structure and pronunciation are both bad. I plan on going to see my cousin this summer in Honduras and I hope to be able to talk to the locals. I would love to travel to Peru and see Machu Picchu, Its one of the most beautiful places in the world. Gracias.

I am majoring in Social Work. My personal interests are music and movies- I did a year of film school at cape fear before switching to an associates in arts. I'm now here at UNCW getting my bachelors in social work. I love music and movies, specifically Paramore and Marvel and Disney movies. I took Spanish classes in high school (7 years ago now). I didn't take any at Cape Fear, so this will be my first Spanish class in a long time! I really hope to get more knowledge about the Spanish language and really stick with it. I think it's so crucial to know Spanish, it can really help you and you can use it to help others. I would definitely be able to use Spanish in my profession, whether it be with adults or kids. It can help build rapport and make a client feel more comfortable if they are able to communicate with you, at least a little bit! A huge thing on my bucket list is to travel to all of the Disney parks around the world. I've been to Disney world in Florida, but that is it. Still have a ways to go to achieve that dream haha. I thought it was really cool that Spanish is the official language in 21 countries. It will be extremely beneficial to learn to speak Spanish fluently! Below is a picture of me and my nephew Ethan. He is 8 years old and mi hermana is currently pregnant again with a little girl. She is due May 3rd, and I could not be more excited! Being an aunt is the best.

I am a theater major. Me gusta paddleboarding, voy a la playa, making crafts, cooking en mi cocina, volunteering for environmental groups, traveling, y hanging out con mi amigos. Durante middle school and high school, I took three Spanish classes, pero yo se only un poco de espanol ahora. Last summer I went to Costa Rica y I needed to use Spanish but it was muy dificil to remember what I learned several years ago! I knew enough to get around, pero quiero estudiar espanol porque me encanta viajar y I want to be able to know the language of the country I visit. I hope this course will help me learn this language and enable me to apply for jobs which require knowing Spanish! Ademas, knowing Spanish might ayudame in my career and open doors for me to work in other countries. Quiero voy a Australia porque even though I’ve been there before for an internship, I loved it so much and I want to go back and travel around that country and surrounding countries instead of just staying in Adelaide for work. After watching the “Why Spanish” video, I learned that knowing Spanish enabled Profesora Deibel to complete some conservation projects in the Amazon, and I am also interested in traveling to other countries for conservation/restoration work as well! I am a recreational therapy major with the hopes to get a graduate degree in occupational therapy. Some of my personal interests are hanging with friends, going to the beach, and I love to travel. I took Spanish 1, 2, and 3 in high school but I haven't practiced in the past three years. I hope this course is a good refresher for what I have previously learned. One place that I really want to travel to is Tahiti, I just think it is such a naturally beautiful place. Soy estudio Public health, i hope to go to Physician Assistant school after graduation. Some of my interests include dancing, going to the gym, and the beach! Yo estudio Psychology y Sociology y Women & Gender Studies. Some of my personal interesantes are mental health, reading, Jesus. I really love just getting to know people deeply and I really love my gato as well. I took Spanish in high school, and I have a few friends who can speak Spanish very well. I am an RA, and I have some residents that are international students and can speak fluent Spanish. I hope to be able to better understand Spanish as a language and as a culture from this class. I feel like it is all around me, but I don't know much about Spanish language or culture at all, honestly. I want to travel in the future, so I think this course could help me with that. I think also just having a broader understanding of a culture is a good thing for all people to have! I really want to travel to Europe for the food and all of the various sights and cultures. I also like to do makeup and watch movies. I took Spanish twice in high school and am now trying to fulfill the language requirements here at UNCW. I hope to gain more knowledge on how to speak, listen, hear and write Spanish. I know how valuable it is to speak a second language especially in the work force. It would be nice to carry a conversation with others who speak Spanish and employers love when someone can speak more than one language. This past summer I studied abroad in France so I got to travel to countries in Europe such as Italy, Spain and the Czech Republic. I would love to visit Australia and Asia, specifically Thailand, Bali or Japan. I learned from the "Why Spanish" video that Spanish is a dominantly spoken language throughout the world. It's important to connect to with people from all over the world, and one way to do that is through language. Learning a second language like Spanish can benefit a person's life for the long-run. Me llamo Peyton. Soy de Charlotte Carolina del Norte. Yo estudio accounting en la cameron escuela de business. I really enjoy snowboarding, exercising, and traveling. In high school I studied Spanish for a couple of years and I also picked up some Spanish while working in a restaurant over the past year. Out of this course I hope to reconnect myself to speaking Spanish. It has always been a dream of mine to be bilingual so I hope this can be my first step to making that come true. Right now I do not have a huge use for Spanish, however I am very interested in doing an internship abroad so being able to have a background with speaking Spanish would help me tremendously with being successful in that internship and possible working abroad long term in a Spanish speaking country. I would love to travel to Japan. I have always been very fascinated with Japanese culture and sushi is my favorite food in the world so I really hope to go there at some point soon. From the "Why Spanish" video I had no idea that so many people were expected to speak Spanish by 2030. That is even more of a motivation for me to become bilingual while I have the opportunity. I am currently studying criminology with a concentration in criminal justice. Personally, I am interested in things such as sports (mainly football and basketball), gaming, pool (billiards or whatever you want to call it), and hunting. As far as experience with Spanish goes, the only real experience I have was taking Spanish 1 and 2 in high school. Since then, I haven’t had much connection into the “Spanish-speaking world”. With this course, I hope to get a better understanding of the language of Spanish and be able to use it in the modern world. One place in the world that I would like to travel to would probably be Japan. Japan is a place that I have always looked at as being interesting and full of culture. On top of this, I really love Japanese food and sushi. With the “Why Spanish” video, the main two things that I learned were that 1) Spanish is spoken heavily throughout many parts of the world and 2) a majority of the world is on pace to be speaking Spanish somewhere around the year 2030.

I took about 3 classes in high school but I did not get much out of it. I have been to Mexico and Guatemala and I wish I would have known some Spanish. I hope this class can refine my skills so I can better communicate in situations like that. This is a major way I could apply Spanish to my life. Also if I can speak Spanish I can better communicate if I am working with customers at a job. One place I would love to travel in the world is Australia because I want to snorkel on the Great Barrier Reef. I like how the video gave examples of how Spanish can help you in life and how it has helped our professor. Previously I took dos levels de Espanol in High School, so I am a bit rusty as it has been two years or so. I hope to better understand and translate Spanish conversations that I may hear in public. Yo soy going into business, so I feel like it’ll be beneficial to know Espanol for my major when working with clients. I would love to just travel out of the country, since I have never had a passport and experienced it. I would choose Canada if I had to choose anything, this is because I would love to snowboard there as I believe they have amazing locations for that. I found the "why spanish" video interesting just because of how impactful Spanish actually is in our world. I enjoy brunch every Sunday, and writing creative nonfiction when not in school. The last time I took Spanish was in 2005. That same year I was able to go to Venezuela and help build a school in Valencia. That was the only practical use of Spanish I ever had. So it is going to take some practice. I hope this class will help me shake the cobwebs off of my foreign language skill and possibly use it in Graduate school with primary source reading. I would like to go back to Italy and learn how to make pasta from an Italian Grandmother.

Some of my personal interests include listening to music, playing tennis, and watching sports. I have a good amount of experience with Spanish because my five of my teammates speak Spanish as there first language and there are three others that are fluent although Spanish is not there first language. In this course I would like to learn more vocabulary and more about sentence structure. I may apply the Spanish I learn in this class by speaking to my teammates in their native tongue because sometimes it is more useful speaking in Spanish during tennis matches so no one knows what we are saying. One place I would like to travel is Amsterdam because I have heard it has very deep culture and is also a very fun place to vacation. In the “Why Spanish” video, I learned that you used Spanish as a volunteer at a clinic, verifying financial information and qualifying Latino patients for healthcare. Adiós.
