This seems like a great way to engage older kids..I'm nervous about this with our littles. How do we ensure that all the kiddos are getting the instruction while at home? This is especially crucial if the in classroom time is dedicated to "digging deeper." The at home piece is my biggest worry....

Additional thoughts... I first posted after not having looked at the lesson plan template. This seems to give a different focus (of the in-class vs. at -home learning time) than the impression the videos gave me. I feel better with the primary instruction given in class, and the at- home focusing on followup or practice of the skills taught in person...

I love that this gives a whole new look to "homework". I hate giving homework especially in math and when I do parents say, "I can't do your new math so my kid didn't do their work." Flipped Instruction allows parents to learn with their students and not expect anything to be perfect or mastered as they are both at the bottom of the learning pit. Students do the academic struggle with me in class and can move forward at their own pace. My concern will be how to implement this online effectively with the middle stage of Flip and Engage. I need to be able to give feedback in real time which means working in small groups of students in Zoom or Teams.

I really like the concept of flipped learning and using in class time as more of a time to explore concepts at a deeper level. It was cool to see how in the middle school science video each student can move at their own pace. I am unsure of how this would work for younger students. They would probably need help accessing and reading material that is meant to be for the days that they are learning at home. I am excited to learn more about flipped learning and how I can adapt and adjust based on the needs of my students.

I love the idea of students getting some of the information before diving into the topic deeper at school. My main concern is how to set up the expectations when starting fully online. It's a concern that I know many have, but it's something I think about often. I know that I also need to become more comfortable with using online applications and recording lessons. I'm nervous in that sense too!

I really like the concept of flipped learning so that it allows more time for hands on learning to occur. I think this type of learning would be incredibly beneficial for secondary students, but I am struggling to picture it for lower elementary students. So much of what we teach is foundational and has to be explicit so if they aren't getting help at home, they won't be able to build on what they learn in the classroom.

Flipped learning seems like a good way to maximize quality time with students.

I like the idea of the practice being done at school. This helps us to be able to give prompt feedback and takes the pressure off the parents to know "how-to" do the work. They are responsible to make sure their student accesses the online portion though, and that's where it gets tricky.

Giving the students a way to process the information in a way that works for them (especially the idea that students can rewind the video instruction). Having a way for students to post questions they have about the video would also be nice. It would allow other students to answer those questions and create a great discussion.

I think flipped instruction is a great model. I think it does work more efficiently with older grades but can be done at the elementary level in some capacity. I think we will essentially be using a flipped learning model because most of our core instruction will be done via video and then more discussion, collaboration, and practice will be done in smaller group settings. How do we maximize our time while providing instruction online?

I like that this model allows kids to take ownership over their learning and agree that it provides them with essential problem-solving skills they will need in their future careers. I am worried however, that this model will present challenges for kiddos that are differently-abled or are learning English. I understand the in-person time helps scaffold them, but I feel as though we will be short on time in person...
