I was born in Ulster country of New York 1797 born into slavery with my 12 siblings.I was sold at age 9. My real name is Isabella Baumfree.the first langue I learned to speak was dutch and was unable to learn due to my prevention from education.

As I managed to get away my son Peter was still inslaved. I charged a law suit against the man who had my son. 1828 I won the case making legal history as I was the first afrecian american to win a case against a white man.My son got his freedom and we reunited.

Peter. He was sold at 5 years old by dumont.He was resold illegally to an owner is Alabama. the case was won making me be winning the rights to have custody of Peter until he was lost at sea. Unfortunately my daughter Diana died from chronic illness in October 25, 1904 in the country poor house. Sophia was being sent to a calhoun country poor house.She died later in Marshall 1901 at a Country Farm at the age of 75. My son James had died during childhood.Elezibethe died of old age marrying a man and having children.

I took my final breath in Battle Creek Michigan of November 26, 1883 due to old age. My last words were "Be a follower of the Lord Jesus". Years later the people built a statue in memory of me on October 6, of 2002.
