One untrained soldier shot down one of the airmen mistaking them for a German fighter plane than could wipe out a bomber in seconds. The other airmen that were shot down needed to find shelter before being captured or killed. Families took them in for a day then let them fend for themselves. One of the airmen dies and they throw a funeral in the middle of battle. They have been harvesting all of the food they can get their hands on and they surprisingly found their way back to the headquarters.

An important part in the novel is when the airmen got shot. They were forced to either get taken by the Nazi. Or run and try to survive without the Nazi getting them. Then the airmen were going from house to house.
The book is pretty good. Their is a decent enough of action. I like action in books. So I feel like I chose the right book.

One crucial part in the novel is when an untrained fighter in a plane had accidentally shot down an american plane mistaking it for a German plane. They were then trying to find food. They also had to find shelter quick. One family took care of them for one day. This makes me feel happy. It seems that people back when Hitler was in power. The people who took them in for one day were at risk. They could have died from being assassinated by the soldiers.

The OSS has not anticipated so many men. The rescue plan was a bigger and riskier than anything ever attempted before. They could only pick up a dozen people at a time. Then fly them to Italy, to pick up more. Exactly how they would do that is uncertain.

We are trying to get the location of the airmen trapped behind enemy lines. We hope that a German fighter does not get there before we do. We have the location of the airmen the dilemma is that we cannot get a plane there and back before the gas is out. We had not expected so many men and can only get a little at a time. We have to get there quick so they do not run out of food supplies. They have already sent an S.O.S. We are hoping to save them and get them medical attention.

Those airmen were trapped behind enemy lines and starving and hoping to find food. The airmen got saved but it was a treacherous time for them.
