In Shakespeare's Much Ado about Nothing, it seems that the focus of the play revolves around the relationships of Claudio and Hero as well as the one between Benedick and Beatrice. Because these relationships (or at least the one between Benedick and Beatrice) are not realistic, it's safe to assume that Shakespeare is trying to say something to the reader through his characters. Shakespeare is questioning the standards for marriage during his time by using specifically Beatrice as a direct opposite to the ideal woman. Her rebellious attitude throughout the entire story and even when she ends up being with Benedick is a big taboo during Shakespeare's time, but he sets up his story so that she ends up living just as happily with Benedick as Hero ends up with Claudio. This is because Shakespeare is challenging relationship norms throughout the story. Another significant point in their relationship is that it appears as though both Benedick and Beatrice have equal power in their relationship, revealing that Shakespeare is also challenging the power women are given in their relationships.

The reason I picked a painting of Lady Macbeth to relate to this idea is because I believe that, despite all their differences, the way Shakespeare uses the character is very similar to the way he uses Beatrice. While she may be a very extreme case of what Beatrice should represent, they're both examples of Shakespeare arguing about women's place in society.

Shakespeare compares the relationship between two couples, Beatrice and Benedick and Hero and Claudio. Both couples want different things for their relationships and marriage. Hero and Claudio fall in love on their own, whereas Benedick and Beatrice's relationship require the help from others around them. In the beginning, Benedick cares more for the physical aspect of a relationship, wanting the perfect wife. Beatrice has many requirements for her husband, passing down marrying a prince. Beatrice would rather wait to find the perfect husband than settle for a man below her standards. She challenges society's expectations for women. Hero and Claudio fall for each other rather quickly. The couples prove that being in a relationship is not easy and comes with obstacles. Shakespeare is correct, showing life is never perfect and being in love comes with flaws.

In Much Ado About Nothing, Shakespeare tells us about what we need to be happy in or out of a relationship. The play focuses on the relationships of Beatrice and Benedick and Hero and Claudio. At first Beatrice and Benedick are very stubborn and deny any marriage. Beatrice makes it obvious that she wants to remain a strong, independent woman without a husband, which was unusual for a woman during this time. Benedick has very clear expectations of the ideal wife. Shakespeare shows through these characters, the pride they have out of a relationship. However, when they do eventually end up together, with a little help, they do not stop their light-hearted bickering. This shows that not all relationships are perfect and it is okay to argue sometimes. Through the relationship of Hero and Claudio, Shakespeare emphasizes love at first sight. Although they had to overcome many obstacles, they ended up together at the end.

In Much Ado About Nothing, Shakespeare focuses on the relationships of Beatrice and Benedick, and Claudio and Hero. Hero and Claudio fall in love very quickly almost as if it was love at first sight, while Beatrice and Benedick fall in love with the help of others. Hero and Claudio face problems in their relationship because of miscommunication. Claudio thinks that Hero had cheated on him and then publicly shamed her. However, they eventually fall back in love, but none of this would've happened if they just communicated. Beatrice and Benedick possibly could've not been together because of a miscommunication. Neither of them had expressed their feelings to each other and wouldn't have realized these feelings without the help of others. Shakespeare is trying to say that a healthy relationship should be based on communication. I agree with him because in order for the two people in a relationship to trust and love each other they need to communicate.

In Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, he focused on the relationships of Hero and Claudio and Signior Benedick and Beatrice. Both of the relationships had their rough patches. Hero was falsely accused of being with another man and Claudio decided to publicly shame her. Resulted in Leonato and the Friar faking Hero's death and then having her become "reborn" to marry Claudio again. Benedick and Beatrice are both very opinionated and have strong ideas about what they need in a significant other. I feel that Shakespeare is trying to say that in order for a relationship to work out, there needs to be balance and communication. You can't just jump to conclusions, you should talk to the person you trust. By the end of the play, both relationships end up working out. This brings the message that love takes over in most situations and can help resolve problems.

Within the Shakespearean play "Much Ado About Nothing", Shakespeare includes a commentary on the ideal marriage and bond between a man and a woman. For example, the relationship between Benedick and Beatrice is Shakespeare illustrating the need for equal weight in a relationship, with neither Beatrice nor Benedick "taking charge". During the time period that this play was written, a rebellious woman such as Beatrice would not have appeared very attractive to most men. With the eventual marriage between Benedick and Beatrice, Shakespeare breaks these norms and argues that similar personalities as well as trust and honesty create lasting bonds between two people.

In Much Ado About Nothing, Shakespeare's focus is generally on the idea that it's human nature to associate with people who are similar. The happiness of the lovers and friends in this play is mostly based on the love or meaningful interaction they have with their counterpart. One of the most important things in relationships/friendships is having common interests/personalities. For example, Benedick and Beatrice both enjoy criticizing and teasing others. With Claudio and Hero, all they can think about is each other. In all of the friendships through the play, they all share common traits and enjoy doing the same thing for the most part. Dogberry and his Verges are a prime example of this, both are very foolish. Another examples of this is Don John and his Servants, who enjoy hurting others.

In Much Ado About Nothing, Shakespeare focuses heavily on the theme of how in basic human nature, people gravitate towards others whom they can relate to. Hero and Claudio are both romantics with their heads in the clouds, so they seem to be "a match made in heaven" and they have no problem expressing their love for each other. Then, there is Benedick and Beatrice who are both cynical and disapproving towards marriage and love, yet through petty arguments and malice towards each other, they are able to come together after some realization that with the right person, love can be real and amazing. I believe that Shakespeare is correct because often times, when I see couples I notice similarities between personalities and tendencies of the two people. Even in my own relationship with my girlfriend, I even find myself thinking "wow she sounds like me" or something along those lines.

In Much Ado About Nothing, Shakespeare focuses on the idea of love, and the human nature associate with people that are similar. Shakespeare liked to contrast different relationship throughout the play. Hero & Claudio, were quick to love, which leads to "hurt" by each other. Benedick & Beatrice, hated each other with a passion, but by the end the hate towards each other vanishes, and they finally accepted that they both love each other. I feel Shakespeare has his idea of how to be in a happy relationship, but nowadays those expectations wouldn't work out. During Shakespeare's time period, woman hand the lower hand, and the man had the upper hand in the relationship.

In order to be happy in a relationship, Shakespeare discusses in Much Ado About Nothing how people need to be able to trust each other. In Hero and Claudio's relationship, Claudio did not have trust for Hero when the accusation of cheating occurred, and that almost ruined their relationship. The two relationships in the play both were very much different, but both of them needed to end in trust and compassion in order for all of them to have a happy ending. Communication is also very important when in a relationship. Hero and Claudio did not have good communication, ending in accusations before they were able to talk out their problems. Benedict and Beatrice did not communicate their feelings at first either, but eventually talked it out and ended in a happy relationship. Shakespeare is correct when it comes to discussing the amount of trust needed in a relationship because without trust, there is no way to be able to get closer to the other person because you'll never know if they're being loyal or doing the things they say they will. He is also right in communication being important because without trust, the couple would not be able to get along effectively and build their relationship. Overall, trust and communication are both very important and Shakespeare brings that up.

In this play, Claudio and Hero’s relationship was effected by the lack of trust Claudio had in Hero resulting in their public breakup at the alter.

In Much Ado About Nothing, Shakespeare enforces that couples need to be like minded and have similar characteristics. Hero and Claudio were very similar characters. They both had a shy and innocent feel. Their relationship was also very stereotypical for the time period too. Hero and Claudio's characters both exemplified societal standards. In contrast, Beatrice and Benedick acted completely opposite of Hero and Claudio. Beatrice defied all societal standards. She was so outspoken and bold while Benedick wasn't interested in looking for a wife at all because nothing met his standards. In the end, they do end up confessing their love and they get married. In both relationships, the couple match because they are similar in their mindsets and personalities. Although this play can be interpreted in many different ways, I think Shakespeare is trying to prove that to be happy in a relationship you need to connect with similarities that you may share in your personality.
