Wildfires have reached a peak in Northern California this past Fall, destroying hundreds of buildings and killing many people. More fire destruction is likely to occur more often because people are building in natural areas and putting themselves in danger of wildfires. Expansion of urban areas into wilderness areas has increased to close to 20% from 1990 to 2010 according to the US Forest Service. Climate change is causing droughts which has led to longer fire seasons Even with California's strict fire codes and buildings made of flame-resistant materials, this continues to be a huge unsolved problem.

L .Hamers.Development near natural areas puts more Californians in the path of wildfires.

The American Academy of Pediatrics is warning parents to avoid exposing children to eight chemicals found in food and plastic. These chemicals had been found to be harmful to kids. The chemicals are nitrates and nitrites which are found in processed meats and plastics. The have been linked to cancer , obesity and cardiovascular disease. These chemicals may also have a neurological effects on kids and cause hyperactivity. Evidence of research show only a correlation because scientist cannot test directly on humans to determine causation.Research suggest that people only eat fresh or frozen product and eliminate processed foods plastic wrapped food.In addition plastic containers should not be put on a dishwasher or microwave because the heat draws out the chemicals. Researches hope this report prove there needs to be more regulation with this chemicals.

L.Rosenbaum.Pediatricians warn against chemical additives in food for kids.ScienceNews.July 23,2018

Enduring Understanding: toxins added to our food.
