This chapter mostly talks about Hiram's back story with some of the main characters, his father, and grandfather. This song fits this chapter because his grand father explains why he thinks black people are meant to work in fields and do hard labor. This song also fits the southern feel of this chapter and the working environment. It also makes sense that this song represents the chapter because his grandpa is more mentioned in the song than his dad. It also represents the relationship Hiram has with his grandfather.

This chapter has to do with Hiram going back to Arizona. He wants to go back to greenwood because he misses grampa. he argues with his dad and says: " He's your dad, it's family even if you don't like it". This song fits because it shows how much Hiram misses his grandfather. The instuments also fit because Hiram was raised in the south.

This chapter is mostly about Hiram finding out about grampa's ways and maybe people of all races are equal. He finds this out when grampa takes him down to money and has a conversation with Mr. Paul. This song fits because Hiram thinks blacks and whites should have equal rights and get together. Mr. Paul claims that grampa maybe wrong and Hiram finds out what is wrong with grampa's beliefs.

In this chapter R.C. attacks Emmett Till after going fishing with Hiram and getting drunk off of a couple of beers. When R.C. attacked Emmett Hiram was so shocked he didn't know what to do when R.C. attacked Emmett. This song matches the chapter because it shows that R.C. didn't want Emmett around so he beat him up. After R.C. beat up Emmett Hiram felt guilty for not trying to stop R.C.. He also felt sad for Emmett because he didn't do anything and he got beat for nothing wrong.

This chapter is about Emmett Till getting kidnapped and murdered by Bryant and Milam after getting kidnapped. This song matches with this chapter because it has to deal with the mourning of Emmett. This song is about a man killing another man and has to go to trial for his crimes. Which is mostly what chapter 9 is about. The lines "put a gun against his head pulled my trigger now he's dead" matches the chapter because the kidnappers killed Emmett by shooting him in the head.

This chapter is about the last day in the trial. This song that I chose matches the way Bryant and Milam reacted when they won the case. This was their reaction: “Bryant and Milam shook hands and slapped backs with their lawyers then turned and kissed their wives”. The lyrics “We are the champions my friends” is like when Bryant and Milam started celebrating. Also the lyrics “and we’ll keep on fightin to the end” matches how Milam and Bryant’s lawyers kept on fighting until the end of the trial.

This chapter is about the second day at trial. This song is a good pair for the way Mr. Breland was saying that Bryant and Milam were innocent, while in reality they weren’t. The person who realized this was Hiram. The lyrics “why you lyin to me” is like Mr. Breland when he lies to the jury. This is also his reaction when the witnesses when he cross examines the other side.

This chapter was about Hiram finding out about the dark side of greenwood when he and grampa discover they have to go to trial and has to testify. This song matches when Hiram finds out that his dad was right about greenwood. The lyrics “somebody once told me the world was gonna roll me” match Hiram’s reaction to the bad side of greenwood. The lyrics “I ain’t the sharpest tool in the shed” match how Hiram’s not fit for trail and how he doesn’t want to go to trial. The lyrics “well the tears start coming and they don’t stop coming” was like the amount of time that it took for the trial.
