The open door policy was a formal agreement that states that rules for countries interested in the trade and commercial activity of China's resources. Other European powers did not go against this policy because it helped to equalize what each country was getting out of China's resources. It was a way to ensure that they were all benefiting the same amount. Its purpose was to end the spread of this Western influence and drive out foreigners. The Chinese secret society was known as Righteous and Harmonious Fists.
