Soul Shack is a new (rustic) pop-up beach and dune tented camp situated on a stunningly wild, remote and beautiful piece of property, 22km south of the West Coast surf Mecca of “Elands” (or E-Bay), called Draaihoek. It’s about 200kms and just over a 2hr drive from CT CBD. It feels like one would imagine the Baja Peninsula or maybe Malibu would have felt in the ‘1970’s. Raw, wild, natural, peaceful, spacious, free, hippy, soulful, laidback, chilled, like you are literally light-years away from the hustle of the city. It is only open for 24 weekends from Nov 1, 2022 – Apr 30, 2023.

FACILITIES:
Main camp is made up of a 54m2 area - under a timber structure and stretch tent, with side panels and latte to shield from any wind and sun. It has a bar area, counters and stools for 16 to sit on and drink and eat, stainless steel central island cooking counter with industrial gas hob. All crockery, glassware and cutlery is also provided. There is also a Moroccan style chill area under tent with rugs, mats and cushions. There are 2 fire pits - one permanent for cooking and one portable for sitting around. There is also a basin with running water for washing dishes etc
- It allows sleeping of 16 people max in 8 x 2-person overland tents, with each one sheltered under its own stretch tents with stretcher beds and mattresses. 
- There are 3 toilets (2 portable and serviced) and 1 permanent, 1 old indoor shower with hot water and hand basin and one outdoor shower. 
- There is a hardworking young Malawian stationed up there called Tiya who will be of service during your stay. He will also help manage the generator and gas. 
- There is space to park vehicles just next to main camp but one need to be mindful of protecting the beautiful dunes and beach.
- One is also able to make use of the lodge swimming pool (about 400m away). 

WHAT TO BRING: 
Each party of 16 would need to bring their own sleeping bags / duvets and pillows, bath soap, towel, torches, their own cooler box with food and ice, firewood, firelighters and matches plus their own drinking water.
It is advisable to also bring a hat and warm clothes, preferably a beanie. The dunes are like the desert and the temperature can drop significantly at night.
Cell-phone signal at the site is sketchy but there is full WiFi at the lodges which are only 800m away. 
COST AND BOOKING:
The site can be booked out from midday Friday to late Sunday. Each weekend group booking comes at a price of R12k, which works out to R375 per person per night.

WIND HAS THE FINAL SAY:
You don’t want to learn the hard way - wind is the big determinant as to whether your 2 days at camp with your group of 16 will be “heaven or hell”. Even if you have booked and paid, on the preceding Monday you will be sent the Elands Bay windguru weather forecast for the beach camp weekend. If it looks like it will be ‘unplayable’, you will be strongly advised to postpone and let your group know. Soul Shack will always make sure we can fit you into another weekend or failing that, that you are reimbursed. You do not want to be camping in the beach dunes when the wind hauls through.
