Pollution is something that we struggle with everyday, like not clean water or a lot of trash filling 

up our environment. Today I’m going to be talking about pollution that is harmful to the oceans, 

and  animals in the ocean. There are so many animals that die each day because of people’s terrible 

actions. Many animals such as birds and fish mistake the trash for food and can then lead to fatal 

damage.

When land is plowed, the soil can erode during storms. Most of it flows into the sea, carrying 

agricultural fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides. Agricultural fertilizers are made from animal 

and plant wastes, treated sewage, and sludge.Pesticides are used for killing insects and small 

organisms, which spill in the water and pollute our ocean. A herbicide is a toxic substance used to kill 

plants and unwanted vegetation, which then gets in our ocean and pollutes it.

Some pollution can actually start from air pollution, which then settles in waterways and oceans.

Air pollution starts when harmful substances including particulates and biological molecules are 

introduced into Earth’s atmosphere. This can cause diseases and can be harmful to humans and 

animals. Sewage contains harmful chemicals that alter the marine environment. 

Many people litter without even noticing, when we litter many animals can eat the trash or they 

can get caught in  it and not be able to breathe. It’so sad to think that one simple action can lead 

to take many animals lives and you didn’t even know. So if you ever find a piece of trash on the 

ground, then pick it up, you could be saving many animals lives and you could take one second 

out of your day just to bend down and pick up a piece of trash. 

It is estimated that 1.3 million gallons of oil is spilled into the ocean each year. Oil spreads 

rapidly when in the water, so a big oil spill could easily double the amount of oil spilled each 

year into our oceans. Gasoline and diesel molecules are smaller particles so they evaporate faster, 

these oils are so toxic to our environment, humans, and animals,it can easily kill an organism that 

breathes in these fuels.
