Native Americans have lived on this continent, from the northern reaches of Alaska to the Gulf Coast of Florida.Native American languages were orally transmitted. After the arrival of Europeans, several tribes began to adopt writing systems. Sequoyah, a member of the Cherokee Nation, spent 12 years developing a writing system so that his people could learn to read and write in their language, completing his 86-character syllabary in 1821. Native Americans spoke more than 300 languages. It is estimated that about 60% of the current world food supply originated in North America. When Europeans arrived, the Native Americans had already developed new varieties of corn, beans, and squashes and had an abundant supply of nutritious food. The foods of the Native Americans are widely consumed and their culinary skills still enrich the diets of nearly all people of the world today. This article provides only a small sampling of the rich and highly varied Native American food culture that has been passed down to modern civilization. also you may ask who was was their leader or who was in charge of the native Americans tribe well its was the the U.S Department of the interior the, primary federal agency charged with carrying out the United States' trust responsibility to American Indian and Alaska Native people, maintaining the government-to-government relationship with the federally recognized Indian tribes, and promoting and supporting tribal self. Also Long before steamboats, trains, and cars existed, canoes were one of the main ways that Native Americans traveled from place to place.
