In this Padlet you will use it as a discussion place to write your paragraph about the Consitutional Convention. You should make a minimum of two posts. One post will be about the actual convention in 1787. Your initial post should be minimum of 5-7 sentences long and use information from one of the sources provided on the "Possible Online Resources" tab. Your second post is a comment on one of your classmate's posts describing whether you agree or disagree on their viewpoint of the Constitutional Convention. You are to tell me what were the goals of our founding fathers for this meeting as well as what were some obstacles they encountered. What were some ideas that were thought of during the Constitutional Convention? How did they overcome their obstacles?

The goals of the constitutional convention was to create a new U.S. Constitution which it says in the First Article, "Four years after the United states won it's independence from England, 55 state delegates, including George Washington, James Madison and Benjamin Franklin, convene in Philadelphia to compose a new U.S. constitution on May 25th 1787." The main things that happened was the great compromise and the 3/5s compromise. The great compromise combined the New Jersey and Virginia plans, the Virginia plan wanted the amount of representatives per state in the legislative branch to depend on the population in the state, this is because Virginia had the largest population at the time. The New jersey plan wanted the number of representatives per state in the legislative branch per state to be equal no matter what their population is, this is because new jersey had a small population. The 3/5s compromise was a compromise that made each enslaved person count as 3/5s of a person as it says in article 2, "The notorious Three-Fifths Compromise apportioned representation to the southern slaveholding states in a scheme that counted five enslaved men and women as three." The Constitutional convention was a meeting where 55 delegates met up to discuss creating a new U.S. constitution.

The Constitutional Convention was to change the Articles of Confederation, and overall be able to help with trades and taxes. For example, in article 1 it states," The assembly immediately discarded the idea of amending the Articles of Confederation and set about drawing up a new scheme of government." This shows that they wanted to fix or get rid of the articles of confederation. The goals/ main ideas of the Constitutional convention was to be able to make trade, and be able to enforce taxes on the people. The main idea of the Great Compromise was to enforce both Virginia and New Jersey plans into one. The main idea of the 3/5 Compromise is to make enslaved people worth 3/5 of person. To support these, in article 2 it says," The notorious Three-Fifths Compromise apportioned representation to the southern slave holding states in a scheme that counted five enslaved men and women as three." This shows the main purpose or idea of the 3/5 compromise. So, that is all of the information i have learned about the 3/5 compromise, the great compromise, the Virginia+ the new jersey plan, and the Constitutional convention.

The Constitutional Convention is an important event in US history. It was an important in history because article 1 says that the main idea was a new form of government called The Constitution. They scraped their original government, The Articles of Confederation, and replaced it with The Constitution. The Constitution is still in use today and used by the government. Also, according to article 2, the main ideas of The Constitutional Convention was The 3/5 Compromise, which counted slaves as 3/5 of a person, and The Great Compromise, which combined both The New Jersey and Virginia Plans. In conclusion, all of this shows why The Constitutional Convention was an important event in US history.

In Article 1, it states that George Washington, James Madison, and Benjamin Franklin composed a new U.S Constitution on May 25, 1787. The main ideas were to basically contribute to the Articles. In article 2, the text talks about how the 3/5 compromise was contributed with slave holding.. Men counted as 5 enslaved people, and woman counted as 3. James Madison proposed the Virginia plan, which based on legislature, and represented by population. Smaller states opposed this plan, and submitted a completed proposal on the New Jersey plan. This was inherited by the Articles of Confederation. Delegates combined both plans, that made up the Connecticut compromise. The legislative branch would be bicameral, consisting of an upper house, (the senate) and a lower house. (The house of representatives).

Another goal was to make a strong government without getting rid of the 3 Unalienable Rights, life, liberty, and the pursue of happiness. In article #1 it says "...lacked constitutional protection of basic political rights such as freedom of speech, religion, and the press." They also wanted to make sure that all the states were included in the document. In article 1 it says "... resisted ratifying the constitution until the U.S government threatened to sever commercial relations with the state." The main idea of the 3/5 compromise was to make sure that voting was fair even with states that have a large slave population. In article 2 it says "The notorious 3/5 Compromise apportioned representation to the southern slave holding states..." The Virginia plan was Virginia's idea of the legislative part of the constitution. In article 2 "... The Great compromise is a compromise between the Virginia and New Jersey plans so it would please both big and small states.
Abigael Stevens essay In article 1 it shows how the goal of the constitutional convention was to create a better framework for our government for America. We needed a better frame work for our government because the one before was not very strong it was weak. So in order to have a better run country and better structure they had to come up with a better constitution. In article 2 the main idea is to come to a agreement and compromise with the other plans. They compromised with the Virginia plan, New jersey plan, great compromise, and the 3/5 compromise. This helped to create a better government framework and overall better run country.

The Constitutional Convention was an important event for the United States. The goal for the Constitutional Convention was to change the articles of ferdeation. One of the main ideas of this convention is the New Jersey Plan. The New Jersey Plan was proposed by William Patterson. William wanted the Legislative branch with one house with equal representation from all states. The Executive branch would only serve one term under the New Jersey Plan. Another main idea that was proposed by Edmund Randolph was the Virginia. For the Legislative Edmund want two house would have two membership determind by the states population. and for the Executive branch they would have limited power and could veto Legislation but could be overridden. Another main idea was the 3/5 compromise. The 3/5 compromise was disscused because people wanted to count enslaved people as people to get more represenatives but they dont treat them as humans. So they came up with the 3/5 Compromise to count 5 enslaved people as three. This was passed towards slaveholders in the southern states. The last main idea that they discussed was the great Compromise. The Great Compromise combined both Virgina and the New Jersey plan togeather so every one was happy. The Great Compromise made it so there was two houses and one was based on population and the other one was to have equal represntives for every state. This is how important the Consitutional Convention was important for the United States.

The Constitutional convention was a very big part in our history, It helped mend all of our 13 states together instead of letting it fall apart more than it already was. On May 25th, 1787 delegates from every state other than Rhode Island met in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. With the 55 hot, sweaty, slimy and soggy men, George Washington, Ben Franklin and James Madison held the convention. This convention ended up being a 3 month debate. In article 2, it states that they wanted to cite the spirited debate and they all came together to try to enhance the size, scope and structure of the federal government. During this convention Jame Madison proposed the Virginia Plan, giving representation to the most popular states. In apposition this plan, William Paterson made the New Jersey Plan. Going against the most popular states, this plan was to give equal representation. Since they couldn't agree on either plan, they decided to make the great compromise. The great compromise was a solution where all states would be represented fairly by creating 2 houses of congress. In addition to this, some thought that slaves should be counted for the votes. Others thought they shouldn't be counted at all. They came out with the 3/5's compromise. They came up with this and made that an enslaved man or women would count as 3. Month later after they decided on what to do with the debate, between October 1787 and May 1788.

The constitutional convention was a huge part of the Untied states history. It was important because in article 1 it says they wanted a better government. On May 25, 1787 in Annapolis Maryland, then they sent delegates to Philadelphia Pennsylvania. The first constitutional convention was held by George Washington, Benjamin Franklin and James Madison. The main ideas were to add onto the Articles of Confederation. In Article two it talks about the 3/5 compromise and how slaves are only allowed to count as 3/5 as a person because they are technically ¨property.¨ If 5 slaves voted only three will be counted for because of this only 3 slaves will be counted for and 2 will go uncounted for. The main ideas from the New Jersey and Virginia plan were on how many representatives will represent that state. The New Jersey plan was to have equal representation no matter what the population. The Pennsylvania plan is where you would have a certain amount of representatives depending on your state population. The great compromise is where these two plans will be combined practically, when they were combined there was a upper house that has the senate and the lower house that has the house of representatives. The Main focus was on the scope, size and structure of the government.

The Great compromise and the ⅗ compromise were important. The Great compromise was important because it combined the New Jersey plan and the Virginia plan. The New Jersey plan was a plan that has equal power for all the states under the constitution. The population or the size of the state doesn’t matter. The Virginia plan was a plan that states would have power on their population size under the constitution. Small states like New Jersey didn't like this because they had less population and they had less power, but larger states like Virginia liked this because they had more power.
Article 1 says - " On May 25, 1787, delegates representing every state except Rhode Island convened at Philadelphia’s Pennsylvania State House for the Constitutional Convention." The people who attended the Great Compromise were trying to make a stable government who were powerful enough, but not too powerful, to enforce laws that will help their newly formed country. They established a strong legislative branch. It is made up of Congress - The senate and House of Representatives -. In article 2 it says - "Representation in the House would be based on population, and each state was allotted two seats in the Senate."
Once they both agreed on the Great Compromise they had another argument. The ⅗ compromise. The ⅗ compromise was each enslaved person counted as ⅗ of a person. The Southerners wanted the enslaved people to be counted as part of the population. The Northern states didn’t want them to count because they didn’t have slaves. They came to an agreement called the ⅗ compromise.

The constitutional convention was a major event in our history. 12 states had met up with 55 delegates there, including some important roles such as George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, and James Madison. They had met up to try and create a better, well built government. They had thought of 4 great plans. The Virginia plan, The New Jersey plan, The Great compromise, and the 3/5 Compromise. The Virginia plan was a plan created by James Madison, which meant bigger states had more power compared to smaller ones. The New Jersey plan was created by William Paterson. The idea of it was to equal all power to all states no matter size. The Great compromise had combined both the Virginia plan and New Jersey plan so all states would have equal power. The 3/5 compromise was a compromise created by James Wilson in which enslaved people would count as only 3/5 of population in each state because slaves were known as property and they didn't want to change that. So, the 4 plans they decided to have were the Virginia plan, the New Jersey plan, The Great Compromise, and the 3/5 Compromise during the meet.

The constitutional convention was an important event in history. After the articles of confederation failed, 55 delegates from every state, (although according to article two Rhode Island didn't attend) gathered to discuss a new government. There were two main plans, the first was called the New Jersey Plan. The New Jersey Plan had all 13 states unify under one central government. The government would be made up of a group comprised of two representatives for each state. The problem with this plan is that states with large populations would have just as much say as a state with a very small population. The next plan was called the Virginia Plan. This plan has a similar structure but the amount of representatives for a state was decided via it's population, this way large states would have an edge over smaller states. Even this plan wasn't perfect though, because the southern states had many slaves. This caused a debate on rather or not they counted as people. Eventually they decided to combine both plans into the great compromise. The government would be split into two parts, the House Of Representatives, and the Senate. The house would be made of two people from each state. The senate, like the Virginia plan, has the number of representatives decided by their states populace. But they had to decide if a slave counted as a person, so they made the 3/5s compromise. Basically this means a slave counts as 3/5s of a person.

In 1787 there was a Constitutional convention. The goal in this convention was to make amendments to the articles of confederation. There were 4 main ideas presented at the convention. The Virginia Plan, The New Jersey Plan,The Great Compromise, and the 3/5 compromise. The Virgins Plan proposed that the legislative branch had a majority of the power and representation that would be based on population. The New Jersey Plan proposed that every branch of the government would have equal power and that there would be equal representation no matter the population. The Virginia Plan also wanted the southern colonies to have their slaves count as part of their population. But the Northern colonies said that you can't count your slaves as people until you treat them as people. Then there was the Great compromise and the 3/5 compromise. The great compromise was where each side would give up some of their demands to meet in the middle. The 3/5 compromise was where fro every 5 slaves they would only count as 3 people total. These were the 4 main ideas presented at the Constitutional Convention with the 55 delegates.

The Constitutional Convention was a plan to change the Articles of Confederation. But that did not go to plan as said in article one where it states, "The assembly immediately discarded the idea of amending the Articles of Confederation and set about drawing up a new scheme of government." Showing that their goal changed from wanting to keep but change the articles of confederation to ditching that and going straight to making a new constitution. The Constitutional Convention was a meeting between 55 delegates (White rich men) who came together with a few goals in mind, to be able to tax the people of America while also being able to trade easier with other countries. On the other hand 2 debates that were a big deal in history that took place in the Constitutional Convention were the 3/5 Compromise and the Great Compromise. The text number 2 talks about the 3/5 Compromise where they state, "The notorious Three-Fifths Compromise apportioned representation to the southern slave holding states in a scheme that counted five enslaved men and women as three." The whole point of this plan was to count enslaved people towards the population but not towards rights. The Great Compromise is the compromise between The Virginia Plan and The New Jersey Plan. The Virginia Plan, meant each state would be represented by a number of legislators determined by the population of people who lived in each state. This would be a benefit to Virginia and other large states, but smaller states with lower populations were concerned that they wouldn't have enough representation. The New Jersey Plan proposed that each state would be represented equally so the smaller states would have a equal voice to the larger states. So they combined the two plans to make the the Great Compromise, this compromise is where the 55 delegates decided to make a agreement where the new legislative branch would be made of The House of Representatives where there are a certain amount of reps. depending on the population of the state and The Congress which has 2 reps. per state so now there are 100 people in Congress. In conclusion this shows that The Continental Congress was a very important meeting for the USA.

That's the reason why this whole thing is called the Constitutional Convention. It was basically a convention discussing the Constitution. Many important people were here such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin. This is what the Constitutional Convention was. Also the New Jersey and Virginia plan were plans that actually helped both low population states and high population states. The New Jersey plan had equal representation from each state. The Virginia plan had representation based on population. Also the 3/5 compromise was something that counted enslaved people as 3/5 of the population.

The Constitution Convention was a very important event for the united states of america. The goals of the constitutional convention where to fix the articles of conversation to make the government be able to for easier than before. When the 55 SMOKING HOT SWEATY MEN where changing the articles of confederation they decided to scrap it and start over with a new thing that we now call the constitution. When the 55 men where talking they where arguing about 4 different things. One of which was the 3/5 plan, the 3/5 plan was then some of the southern states wanted to count there slaves as people because the bigger the population the more power you would have in the house of representatives. But the northern states argued because they didn't have as many slaves and they said argued that they don`t treat them like humans so they shouldn't count them as there human population. But in the end they settled down and derided to make black 5 black people count as 3. But one of the other plans that was proposed was the Virginia plan. which consisted of a bicameral legislature in which representation would be based on population. The larger states supported this plan, because it would accord them greater representation based on their more bigger populations than some other states that had a smaller population. But then some other states proposed The New Jersey plan. It states in article two to states¨the legislature would be unicameral and each state would have a single vote.¨. But one of the most important one in my opinion is the great compromise. Which is basically the compromise of the New Jersey plan and the Virginia plan. The compromise is that one part of the legislative branch has every state have 2 people come in to represent them in the senate, kinda like how the New Jersey plan wanted it. But in the House Of Representatives it is depending on population. So the more populated your state is the more representatives your state has. So in conclusion the Constitution Convention was a very important event for the united states of america.

The constitutional convention was a gathering between of delegates from twelve of the thirteen original colonies that took place in 1787. The purpose of the convention was to revise the Articles of confederation, which had been the governing document of the united states since the country's independence from great Britain. however, the delegates soon realized that the articles were too weak to provide an effective government and decided to draft a new constitution. The result was the united states constitution which created a stronger federal government with three branches- judicial, legislative, executive- and a system of checks and balances to prevent any one branch from becoming to power full. The constitution has been the foundation of American government ever since.

The Constitution Convention was an interesting and important part of US history. One of the goals for the constitutional convention was to gain more power for the executive branch of government. In Article 2 it states that the federal government lacked the power of taxation, as well as not having enough power to resolve rising conflicts between states. Another goal of the Constitutional Convention was to gain more rights. In article 1 it states that the Articles of Confederation lacked the protection of basic rights such as freedom of speech. The New Jersey Plan was basically a plan that would have one House of Representatives and each state would have exactly one representative in congress as stated in article 2. The Virginia Plan was a plan in which it had multiple houses of the legislative branch. Also it would be based off of population. Larger states would most likely choose this plan because of their more larger populations as stated in article 2. The Great Compromise also known as the Connecticut Compromise was a mix of both the New Jersey plan and the Virginia plan. The legislative branch would have a Senate and a House of Representatives. It was also based off of population according to article 2. The 3/5 compromise was a plan to have enslaved people as 3/5 of a representation. Every 5 enslaved people would count as three for the purpose of legislative representation and taxation. The Constitutional Convention was an important part of history because we wouldn't have such a powerful government without it.

The constitutional convention is a very important event that happened in U.S history on May 25, 1787. In article one, it talks about how George Washington, James Madison, and Benjamin Franklin composed a new U.S Constitution. In article two it talks about the delegates from the states, gathering at the independence hall, and ideas they had. (Virginia & New Jersey plan and the 3/5 compromise.) The main goal of the constitution was for all of them to have a meeting together to change the articles of confederation. Some main ideas from the constitution were the Virginia & the New Jersey plan, and the 3/5 compromise. The Virginia plan was a plan that would have power based on the population under the new constitution. The New Jersey plan was a plan that had equal power for all states under the new constitution. The ⅗ compromise was a compromise about the enslaved people that would count as ⅗ of a person. Some of the enslaved people weren't treated and considered as people. During the constitutional convention, each plan, (Virginia & New Jersey) had three brands of government. Each branch was a bit different for each plan. The three branches of government the two plans had were the Legislative branch, executive branch, and the Judicial branch. So you see, this is why the constitutional convention was a very important meeting in history.

The constitution convention is a memorable event that happened in US history and started May 25, 1787. The main goal of the constitution convention was that they all met together to change the articles of confederation. It was to discuss trade issues. They wanted to consider possible changes were needed to make the constitution work for the needs of Americans. In that constitution convention there were 4 main events. The 3/5 compromise, New Jersey plan, Virginia Plan and Great Compromise. First the 3/5 compromise, this means that each enslaved person would count as 3/5's of a person. This was a horrible compromise because enslaved people were considered property and were not counted. The New Jersey plan was a plan that has equal power for all states under the new constitution. They wanted One house with equal representation from all states and could collect taxes from states. The Virginia Plan was a plan that would have power based on the population under the new constitution. This plan was based on population. The Great compromise was about the New Jersey and Virginia Plan. Since they both had different ideas they needed to figure out what they were going to do. So they brought the two plans together to make one compromise to agree on. They both had different ideas so they combined them together into one great compromise. That sums up all of the events and what the constitution convention is about. In article two it talks about the overview of the constitution convention and how they created a new government. Article one talks about how the constitution convention how the different colonies became a part of it and the process of the debate.

However, other states, especially Massachusetts" As stated in the first artical. The reason The Great Compromise was important is that it was one of the first big discussions that the colonies made as a whole."May 25 to September 17, 1787, 55 delegates from 12 states convened in Philadelphia for the Constitutional Convention." According to Artical 2. The Great compromise was where they decided to combine The New Jersey Plan & The Virginia Plan and for the legislative branch Benjamin Franklin agreed that each state should have an equal vote in the Senate in all matters so nobody would have more power.

The Constitutional convention was very important because it was a huge turning point in history. The constitutional convention was in place during 1787 in Philadelphia, when 55 delegates came together from different colonies to make a new constitution trying to create a better one. A few of the delegates consisted of Benjamin Franklin, George Washington and James Madison. The goal of the constitutional convention was to create a better government and was going to replace the Articles of Confederation. Some of the reasons they wanted to change the Articles of confederation was because of the New Jersey plan, the Virginia plan and the 3/5 compromise. The new jersey plan wanted the representatives of each state in the legislative branch to be equal, it does not matter how big or small the population was. The new house of representatives would be based on population. The Virginia plan had 2 governments governing the people. This plan divided the governments into legislative, executive and judicial branches. Virginia wanted the amount of people in the legislative branch to be based on the population of people in the state because Virginia had a large population. As said in the second article, "Three Fifths Compromise apportioned representation to the southern slave holding states in a scheme that counted five enslaved men and women as three." The 3/5 compromise was an agreement that every enslaved person would count as 3/5 of a person and not a whole human.

In article 2, the fact That "James Madison proposed the Virginia Plan, which called for a bicameral legislature in which representation would be based on population.",witch was proposed by none other than Virginia, The state with one of the largest populations at the time. Also stated in Article 2, Smaller states Had proposed The NEW JERSEY PLAN, a form of legislature with EQUAL representation For all states/\. The GREAT COMPROMISE was a combination of the NJ plan and the VA plan, Where One house would be based on POPULATION (Witch includes 3 out of every 5 slaves AKA the 3/5 compromise), And another house based on The NJ plan.

The constitutional convention and ⅗’s compromise, yes, happened around the same time but they are two completely different things. The constitutional convention was held because there were trading issues, they also wanted to make big changes that were needed to make the constitution work for the needs of America. The “New Jersey Plan'' is the plan that has equal power for all states under the new constitution. So during The “New Jersey Plan'' everyone that was involved had equal power for the new constitutional plan. The “Virginia Plan'' is when people who were involved would have power based on population under the new constitution. Lastly, during The ⅗’s compromise it was the compromise that decides whether an enslaved person world counts as ⅗’s of a person or not. Which means back then rich white men counted as 5/5 of a person or 1 person. Which should have been counted the same for slaves. But slaves only counted as ⅗’s of a person.

The Constitutional Convention was created to change The Articles of Confederation and to make new goals for the government. The government was weak and couldn't raise taxes or raise a military. The goals for the Constitutional Convention were to make a stronger central government, raise armies, and raise taxes, this information was gathered from the third article. The Constitutional Convention was made by 55 delegates from each state. The only state that did not send a delegate was Rhode Island. This meeting happened 4 years after the Untied States won Independence from England. General George Washington was elected as Convention President. In this meeting, they discussed the Virginia Plan, the New Jersey Plan, The Great Compromise, and the 3/5 Compromise. Starting off with the Virginia Plan, this plan wanted 2 houses for the legislative branch. This plan would accord greater representation based on the more numerous populations. This information was found in article 2. But, some of the states didn't have as big as a population as Virginia had and disagreed with this plan. That's when they made an opposing proposal known as the New Jersey Plan. The New Jersey Plan wanted only one house in the legislative branch and each state would only have a single vote. Since the states weren't agreeing on the plans, The Great Compromise was made. The Great Compromise was the compromise that combined both plans together. There would be 2 houses, an upper house and a lower house. The upper house was The Senate, each state was allowed 2 seats in the Senate. The lower house was the House of Representatives. This information was also found in article 2. Not only was there the Great Compromise, but there was also the 3/5 Compromise. This compromise was known to be one of the most notorious provisions of the Constitution which was stated in article 2. The 3/5 Compromise was a compromise that counted enslaved people as 3/5's of a person. In conclusion, the Constitutional Convention made our government stronger and accomplished many achievements.

The great compromise and the ⅗ compromise were important. The great compromise was important because it combined the New Jersey plan and the Virginia plan. The New Jersey plan gives equal power for all the states. The Virginia plan would give power to states based on their population.
The great compromise and the ⅗ compromise were important because it was a debate on the New Jersey plan and the Virginia plan. According to the Virginia Plan, each state would have a different number of representatives based on the state's population. The smaller states favored the New Jersey Plan. According to the New Jersey Plan, the number of representatives would be the same for each state. The people who attended the Great Compromise were making a stable government who were powerful enough, but not too powerful, to enforce laws. They established a strong legislative branch. It is made up of Congress. The Congress is made up of the senate and House of Representatives. After their debate they had a new argument. The 3/5 compromise. The ⅗ compromise was that each enslaved person counted as ⅗ of a person. The Southerners wanted the enslaved people to be counted as part of the population. The Northern states didn’t want them to count because they didn’t have slaves. They came to an agreement called the ⅗ compromise.
In conclusion the great compromise and the ⅗ compromise were both very important debates. The great compromise proposed a double legislature with equal representation in the lower house and equal representation of the states. The ⅗ compromise determined that an enslaved person counted as ⅗ of a person.
