I chose the Biggest, Sweatiest kid, bing bang, boom as my six- word memoir. I chose this because throughout the book Mason or other characters continue to say that he is the biggest, sweatiest kid in his grade. Some of the other kids call him a gross out because he sweats a lot. I chose bing, bang, boom because he said that was what uncle Drum said after everything happened and his mom and Benny died. Mason also thinks that because of the bing, bang, boom that he has bad luck or is cursed. Mason warns Calvin that he has bad luck or is cursed and Calvin tells him that he does not believe in that.

I created this six word memoir to encompass all of Mason's misfortune throughout the story. He has many hurdles and struggles to overcome including the death of loved ones and a disability. But, it also specifically nods to him being bullied and having apples thrown at him daily. I chose this specific quote because I think it shows his attitude toward these misfortunes, and how he knows what is important and what is not. And that is what is smart.

The Truth As Told by Mason Buttle:
I decided to create my six-word memoir on the Dragon and Mason's story. At the beginning of the book I could tell that Mason was experiencing some difficulty with reading, writing, and even spelling. It was later discovered that Mason suffers from dyslexia. Ms. Blinny really gets Mason outside of his comfort zone when she introduces him to the Dragon. The Dragon allows Mason to "write" by speaking his word into a headset. I believe this helped spark some confidence in Mason, as this is something he has always struggled with.

I chose to do use the six word memoir of "Don't Be a Gross Out, Mason." Mason often references his sweating, telling himself to not be a "gross out." We finally realize towards the middle of the book that Mason has a disorder called Diaphoresis, which cases excessive sweating. After reading the book, you can't define or characterize Mason without "sweat.'" He even has to bring an extra shirt to school so he can change before lunch. Calvin doesn't seem to mind over Mason's disorder and I assume neither did Benny.

The six word memoir I chose is “Create Your Own Story with Perseverance.” Perseverance means steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay achieving in success. I chose this because I think that Mason showed us that no matter the obstacles you may face, or the words others say about you, YOU can create YOUR own story. It’s not up to others, it’s up to you! Mason has dyslexia which causes him to have some difficulty reading and writing, but with the help of dragon he is able to overcome that and persevere. He also faces diaphoresis. Mason experiences bullying from others at school, but he doesn’t let that get in his way either.

I chose to create my six word memoir, " Be the aurochs. Speak your truth." because of hoe Mason identifies with the aurochs throughout the story. He mentioned how he felt as though he and the aurochs were the same a few times in the story. The aurochs makes him feel powerful and like he can do what he sets his mind to. I feel like the aurochs comes through in Mason when he preservers through the hard times such as dyslexia, bullying, and the death of loved ones. He speaks his truth of what happened and is persistent when the detective doesn't believe him. He doesn't let things get in his way and is strong like the aurochs.
