Brand in Arthur plays a man not too far off from his real star image. A rich Heir who is obsessed with booze and women. Brand has certainly embodied elements of Arthurs characters at a certain point. However, what is important to note, is that Brand takes on such roles, which he would no longer embody in real life. His new family life and self-help image is far from the sex, booze addict that Arthur represents and that Brand once and no longer is.

Russell Brand plays a geezer who is involved with naughty school girls who are trying to commit crime to get money. His clothing isn't really any different from what he usually dresses, his accent is completely the same. He has partly embodied himself in that his still holds the confident and comedic traits that he would present us even on a personal appearance. He is with-holding the comedic element of his star image, yet portraying it in a different scenario; that being a family film.

Russell in Bedtime stories plays a rather strange character, who also suffers with sleep panic disorder and finds himself falling asleep and screaming himself awake. Comical to an audience. What Russell portrays in this film is again a character that reaches out the a family audience. The film is rated PG and Brand certainly plays that family PG role. He still has his wackiness and bizarre traits that we see in Brand in real life. Thus his character embodies elements of Brands comedic star image. But this however, is a comedic image that reaches to a young audience, rather than a crude humour, not for the faint-hearted.

He compared it to being on "LSD", even though most people wont know what that feels like! He is comparing it to a drug experience, because its so powerful and so overwhelming. This is key in relation to Brands star image, because it is vital to see that even as this image of a family man, he is still linked to his core image of an addict. Its his past that is ever-present with him. He is so vocal in it being part of who he is that it remains ever-present at the core of his image.

The underlying theme of all of the self-help stems from his star image of trouble with addictions in the past. Its constructed his image which, seeing a celebrity such as Brand go through troubles, and come out the other side as a guru, a meditation practicer, an all round insightful man - we have someone who is now in touch with the global obsession with self-help, mental health and well-being. Russell Brands star image is and should be a vital contributor to such conversations.

Russell Brand speaks candidly about the death of Amy Winehouse and their friendship they had. Russell has spoken about how he wished he could have helped Winehouse in his documentary freedom from recovery where he visits her old home. Brands star image is clearly associated with other addicts in this sense. That in his earlier years until now, he surrounds himself with somewhat complex people. Which adheres to his star image as an addict and a somewhat complex person himself.

It sounds as though Brand met his match in Katy in a sense. She offered confidence that could match his level. This was the beginning of their blooming whirlwind.

They were engaged in less than 4 months and married 10 months later. After a few baby rumors, their relationship sadly ended 2 years later. Although short-lived, they were a celebrity couple that even now remains spoken about so often by the press.

Katy, who didnt want to become a "hollywood housewife" also clashed with Russells sober lifestyle. She was out partying and enjoying herself, which Russell had been and done.

The article introduces us to "The former addict" Russell Brand, who now has a house worth £3.3 million in Oxfordshire. Which slightly contradicts his image of money not accumulating happiness. However, what this article shows is his transition from fully-fledged drug addict, to a recovered man, but the image of Addict will always remain. Its his image, his brand, his construction. Its what he has built himself on and is the reason for his Zen life. He is somewhat an example for people to follow. If it all goes wrong, there is hope. Brand as his star image of an addict is somewhat an emblem of hope.

Having been married to one of the most famous pop stars of our time, he is now with under the radar Laura. She is in celeb circles and has a blog. Again, this suggests that Brand and his wife are moving away from the limelight and focusing on themselves and their family and daughter.
Stand-up Set for Comin Relief (2015)

This set was organised by Russell Brand to raise money for people with drug and alcohol addictions. He references making someone "dance for him" and how it was familiar to him. In this sense he is referring to his addiction with lap dances, which he has expressed. Therefore, in stand up he still refers to the core star image that is the addict, who underpins the image of Russell Brands star image.

Russell Brand opens with a bold question for Derren. He doesn't avoid the difficult questions. He asks multiple difficult questions throughout that probe exciting and intellectual conversations. What is reoccurring throughout these podcasts, is these incredible and talented people that go on his show, always return the compliment. People are in awe of Russell because of the human that he is. The way he holds and composes himself. Which is partly why his star image as a recovered addict is so successful.

The under the Skin Podcasts show Brand in a very different format. He is the listener, not the talker. He brings on interesting people and gives them the chance to tell their story. On the one hand, this is Brand in a new light, because he is doing the listening. However, it still always ties into that self-help image that stems from his image as an Addict and wanting to help others that is the core of this podcast.

What is so interesting in Brand as a Father is that his core image of an addict fades into the background. Because the focal point is him as a parent or a husband, which contrasts massively to the womaniser, drug taking, whirlwind romance with Katy Perry man which once was the focus. Now, as a father, the core star image remains, but the ideologies of a family unit and love become a reality and are taken seriously for this comedic Brand.

“stars possess several identities and several different kinds of identities, determined by the various aspects of their character and the various characters that they play.”

Brand possesses man identities. The Political Activist, the Comedian, The Self-help Guru, The Womaniser, the list continues. All of these identities are secondary to his core star image which is The Addict. This is the primary image that creates all the other identities of Brand. His self-help stems from The Addict, as does his issues with the Womaniser since it stems from his issue with addiction. His core image is always present, even when it is a focus on the secondary medias.
