Breakthroughs were alot this year, when we discussed with our students some of the Homeroom topics that were given to us by the BLM team, I think this opened my eyes and those of my students that it affects everyone and how we can deal/be better at dealing with the issues with our Black students and have them feel uber supportive and included in the classroom. I truly loved this.
Shout out to Mr Wilson, Mr. Bankole and Ms. Garriguez and the the BLM team.

I feel we came to realize that we are capable of adapting to challenges and rising to the occasion in the face of adversity. While these circumstances have been exceptionally "abnormal," adversity has never been absent and never will be. We can now apply this mindset and adaptability to all obstacles, particularly equity-related ones, whether they are related to the pandemic or not.

Grading for Equity

It was really impressive when we as a school focused on grading for equity! So many students said it really helped them. And I think it gave a lot of us teachers a realization of another way to grade.

I'm thankful for my Math teams collaboration and commitment to hold our students to high standards. I appreciate the meetings we had as a whole staff and the uncomfortable conversations that needed to take place.

Social Science Success!

Collected tons of student data and monitored student progress over this year that will be invaluable in getting everyone caught up next year. We know more about where students will need to be in terms of analytical writing ang argumentation because of the department. We also got some great snapshots of the work our students were doing in Zoom which was just really moving to watch.

Highlights were Black Lives Matter Lessons and the conversations with the BSU. I will really miss this focus and I found this so important and valuable!

EPA Team,
We stayed a strong family unit for our students and I witnessed every single one of you put our students first and foremost everyday. We stayed so unified through our weekly meetings led by Van to intervene, check in with students, support them both academically and individually.
I know even during the most challenging parts of this year, our students felt so supported by each of you and I am grateful to be a part of this team that has worked so hard to get to this point.
We love EPA :)

As a department, we broke down the curriculum to the skills we thought would benefit the students to have in all the classes they will see in the future. We had to leave out some of our favorite lessons because of time, but the students will have skills to learn in school or career later.
