Animal Testing Should Be Illegal

by Ajayi Ifeoluwa
Animal testing has caused a lot of harm to animals and has stripped the rights of animals. They are blinded, injected, maimed, force-fed and subject to cruel unusual punishment at the hands of human scientists and their tests.

The rights of animal lives should be preserved because anything living should not be subject to health hazards, pain and avoidable illness or death. Similar to how basic human rights are preserved, animal rights should be preserved as well.

Most results from these tests are not suitable for use by humans, so why use it in the first place and reduce the rights of animals to basically nothing. People on HumaneSoeity.org who have study these results claim “Animal tests have scientific limitations, as different species react to differently when exposed to the same chemicals. Consequently results from animal tests may not be relevant to humans, as they can under-or overestimate real-word hazards to people.” If human beings speak up when they feel like their rights are being trampled upon, then they are being hypocritical by inhumanely taking advantage of these helpless animals.

Animal testing is not proved to work all the time. Studies conducted in the University of Pittsburgh in 2013 say “In 2013, a landmark study published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences concluded that the results of sepsis experiments on mice can’t be applied to humans because the genetic responses of mice to sepsis were ‘close to random in matching their human counterparts’. Close to random”. Animal testing is not guaranteed to work 100% of the time, so why do it in the first place?

People say it works, it is making sure that humans are safe and that they are ensured good products. What about the lives of the precious animals? From an article by The Telegraph, people ask “Animal experimentation is a contentious issue, but it boils down to two essential questions: does it work, and is it ethical? The first is easy to answer: it works. Some would have you believe there are alternatives for all animal research, or that animal testing is always misleading and unsafe. These are fallacies.” Although animal testing works approximately half of the time, the other half of the time where it does not work is just humans vilely and viciously killing off the population of the animals being used.

Animal testing is dangerous and inhumane. It is intentionally killing and wasting the lives of our venerated animals and there are copious and plenty other alternatives to animal testing which can be used to achieve the same or even better results.

It is time for us to come together to protect the rights of our beloved animals. It is time for animal testing to be banned and outlawed.

Pro by Ajayi Ifeoluwa
The following cartoon makes the argument that the use of animal for testing should stop. This supports the pro argument in that animal testing is seen as is an inhumane act. This cartoon tries to say that there are other ways to find cures and medicines without the use of animal testing. As the article mentions to stop animal testing, the scientists and people i general should stop animal testing to uphold the rights of animals.

by Angela Babalola
There are multiple benefits about the idea of animal testing. Animal testing has contributed to many life saving cures and treatment. It’s a fact that the experiments done on animals helps humans, despite that, animal testing is considered a bad thing.

Although people might say animal testing is cruel and inhuman, we can’t ignore the fact that it has helped the human race in medical needs and cures. Animal testing shouldn’t be viewed as a bad thing when it helps .

Animals are very similar to human beings in many ways , which makes them the right research subjects. According to sciencemag.org “humans share about 99% of our DNA with chimpanzees”. Humans and animals come from similar ancestors and we all have the same set of organs. This proves more why animals testing is the good.

Animals actually benefit from the results of animal testing. According to the national Academies Press “pets, livestock, and animals in zoos live longer, more comfortable, and healthier lives as a result of animal research….. “Treatments for heartworm infestation (a painful and ultimately fatal affliction in dogs), therapies for cholera in hogs, and diagnostic and preventive techniques for brucellosis and tuberculosis in cattle are all now available because of animal research.

Animals testing are already protected from mistreatment by the law. According to the united states department of agriculture it explains what the animal welfare act is “It is the only Federal law in the United States that regulates the treatment of animals in research, exhibition, transport, and by dealers.” This proves that the claims of animals been treated bad is not an issue, because they are already protected by the federal law, which is a very high position in law.

Citizens have protested against animal testing heavily saying its cruel and inhumane but we cant ignore the blatant fact. Animal testing is helpful for humans and it has been helping find new cures to different diseases and its a fact that needs to be aware. If the general public thinks about it, would someone rather save a human kid or an animal especially the child belongs to the person.

Animal testing helps us in medical research; we have found cures to multiple cures; the benefits vary. The only way human prosperity is going to continue is if animal testing is done and the blind protest against is stopped.

In conclusion it's time america sees the benefit of Animal testing. Animal testing should be legal and not viewed as a bad idea.
