Chapter one introduces Tegan and her friends. Tegan went to Alex’s (her friend) house to promote the bad. Alex was really big on the world so she always wanted to promote the bad in the world when she could. Dalmar was the love of Tegan’s life. Dalmar also went to promote the bad in the world with Tegan and Alex. When they got to the place  where they promote the wrong Tegan was shot. 

Tegan woke up one hundred years later in a government facility. This is because she signed her body over to science before she died, so when they was starting a project they could use her body. At this time they were trying to bring back dead bodies so when the soldiers whom die at war they can come back to life. This procedure was to freeze all organisms for One Hundred years. Tegan didn’t remember anything and she met her new friend Dr Carmen. 

They went to the shops and Tegan said something and they got it twisted (in last chapter) 

Tegan and Dr Carmen had to have a meeting with the head of the facility and they were very angry that Tegan even replied to the web. The web said that she was the living dead girl and that her soul went to heaven but her body is still her and they said that they should have let her body go with her soul to heaven. KOKO (her computer) helped her with the teenage slang of this century. Bethari was a girl who was kind of forced to be friends with Tegan so she wouldn’t be lonely at school. 

Dr Carmen is Tegan’s doctor. She is the doctor that takes Tegan into her home to live. She is a very sweet lady. Marie has get Tegan up to date with the new century, and learn Tegan how to live again (Since she has been dead for 100 years). When Tegan gets into trouble with the government facility… Marie helps her escape and go and find more answers... but most importantly live a better life.

Tegan was just an ordinary six-teen year old girl until one day. Tegan Oglietti was shot in front of the Parliament house. She is the main character. Before she died she signed her body over to science. Tegan is the first person to be cryonically frozen. Tegan wakes up 100 years later in a government facility. When she gets out and gets to live with a doctor, She tries to fight for a better life. She wants answers…. And she will do anything to get them.

Dalmar was Tegan’s lover in her first life. He was the one who stole Tegan’s heart for the very first time. Dalmar and Tegan started ‘Officially’ dating on her last day of her first life. Dalmar was Muslim and wasn’t treated very well. But Tegan, him and Alex (Another one of Tegan’s friends) were fighting for a better life for Dalmar.

Karen Healey’s When We Wake mesmerized me with its enthralling setting. The way the futuristic world is set up is superb. The story is set in Melbourne, Australia in 2127. The small continent of Australia has become the superpower of the world, it is now the new land of sources and an open minded continent in terms of gender and sexual orientation. But up to that point everything else is horrible, the Earth’s environment is severely damaged, with oceans rising and extreme weather patterns. All the electricity is powered by wind energy, solar energy, and hydroelectric energy. But third world countries still use fossil fuel because they can’t afford the modern way.  Meat has become frowned upon and almost everyone is a vegetarian because nobody can raise animals due to very little water. The new future that Healey has created isn’t the same regular dystopian you see in the other books. She has created a future where there is a corrupt environment not just a horrible community. Overall, I think When We Wake was very well written. The setting was brilliant and there was many plot twists that always kept me guessing. Even after finishing the book, I was still thinking about how horrible the Earth’s environment had become in this novel. The world she has created is wonderful and the details are well written. When We Wake is a brilliant dystopian that challenges the norm of dystopian novels.

Air sustains us and water is a basic necessity, so we should do what we can to prevent pollution.
