During the late 1600's there were many thoughts of witchcraft and devil worshipers. People all over the world would believe in certain stories and thought the slightest difference would make a person a witch. They would host and have the witch trials to have a sacrifice of those who they thought were witches. One of the most popular sites of witch trials was in Salem Massachusetts.

Salem had the most well known series of hearings against witches as well as some of the worst ways to fight them off.

Identify a Witch

There was many types of trials and tribulations that were used to identify a witch. One of these was they would put the supposed witch into a lake and push her in. If she would sink she was not a witch. This sucked because she would be free and safe from a life in "hell" but she would drown and die. If the accused started to float they would become what everyone feared a witch.

The other way to identify one would be to strip them of all clothes and look for a witches tit and or a third nipple.

Puritans

The Puritans believed how people needed to purify the land. They wanted to have a nation under and only God and or a world where God ruled upon all. They believed that some people were damned to go to hell and some were made to go to heaven. Some people tried to pretend to be holy in order for them to go to heaven.

They thought that if you portrayed someone holy you had a chance of going to heaven. Those who were destined to go to heaven had something called a devine moment upon where god talked to them or showed himself in some way.

Accusers

Some people would accuse others of witchcraft to get the heat off of their chest. Some people would go against those who were already accused in order for them to have in a sense a strong alibi. They would use this Witches Specter in order to prolong their lives and prevent their deaths. They said that this was a power granted to them due to the devil and witches outreach while they tried to turn the girls into witches. Over time they would cause many deaths whether it was the poor, people who had already been accused or people who did not have God like mannerisms and ideals. Some examples of this were those who liked the opposite sex and willingly got divorced.

The court cases were a significant part of the Crucibles story. This was what made the decisions on whether or not a person would be prosecuted as a witch. They forced people to strip down in order for them to see if they had the witches tit. They used their fear as a way to punish those even if they didnt have significant evidence to prove them guilty. The court had no regard for life as long as it meant purifying their economy.
