This module uses AI (ChatGPT) as a simulated patient to provide a realistic, low-stakes environment for practicing clinical skills. You will:

1. Interact with a simulated patient to gather history, make clinical decisions, and develop a management plan.

2. Reflect on your performance and identify areas for improvement.

3. Reinforce your learning with case-specific resources and feedback.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Access the Template

• Browse the categories of clinical cases (e.g., General Medicine, Emergency Scenarios, Specialty Cases).

• Select the case you wish to practice and copy the pre-designed prompt provided in the Padlet post.

2. Open ChatGPT

• Log in to ChatGPT

• Paste the prompt you copied into ChatGPT’s input field to start the interaction.

3. Engage with the Simulated Patient

• Begin the interaction by asking open-ended questions (e.g., “Can you describe your symptoms?”).

• Use a systematic approach to gather key information, such as:

  • Presenting complaint (e.g., chest pain, breathlessness).

  • History of presenting complaint (onset, character, duration, etc.).

  • Past medical history, medications, and social history.

• Take detailed notes during the interaction to guide your clinical reasoning.

4. Develop a Management Plan

• Based on the information you’ve gathered, consider the possible diagnosis and formulate a plan.

You are a virtual patient simulator designed to help 3rd year UK based medical students practice clinical decision making, situational judgement and assessment skills.
