         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Phoenician</strong></div><div><strong><em>Geographic features:</em></strong></div><div><strong>Mountains</strong></div><ul><li>Levanon</li></ul><div><strong>Water features</strong></div><ul><li>Mediterranean sea</li></ul><div><strong>cities</strong></div><ul><li>Byblos</li><li>Tyre</li><li>Sidon</li><li>Sarepta (Zarephath)</li></ul><div><br></div><div><strong>Levanon: </strong></div><div><strong>    </strong>More than anyone else, the Lebanese must know that they are from Lebanon-Phoenicia and not from anywhere else: no other nation in the world has raised such commotion about its origins as the Lebanese nation.</div><div><strong>Mediterranean Sea:</strong></div><div>   The Phoenicians spread through the western Mediterranean reaching North Africa and the Iberian Peninsula. From the 6th century BC up to including the 5th century BC, many of the significant Mediterranean peoples were under Persian rule, making them dominate the Mediterranean during these years.</div><div><strong>Byblos:</strong></div><div>    Byblos is among the cities listed as candidates for the distinction of `oldest city in the world’ as it has been continuously inhabited for over 7,000 years.</div><div><strong>Tyre: </strong></div><div>   Is an ancient Phoenician port city which, in myth, is known as the birthplace of Europa (who gave Europe its name) and Dido of Carthage (who gave aid to, and fell in love with, Aeneas of Troy).</div><div><strong>Sidon:</strong></div><div><strong>   </strong>The ancient city was built on a promontory facing an island, which sheltered its fleet from storms and served as a refuge during military incursions from the interior. In its wealth, commercial initiative, and religious significance, Sidon is said to have surpassed all other Phoenician city states.</div><div><strong>Sarepta (Zarephath):</strong></div><div><strong>   </strong>Sarepta  was a Phoenician city on the Mediterranean coast between Sidon and Tyre, also known biblically as Zarephath. It became a bishopric, which faded, and remains a double Catholic titular see.</div><div><br><br><br></div><div><strong>   </strong></div><div><br></div>]]></description>
