This image correlates with the lyrics that Billy Joel repeats "And we would all go down together". Billy is singing this from the position of a soldier saying that they would all go down together because they are brothers. This picture shows that well as the soldiers are carrying the middle out because they have his back and are there for them for the long run.

The picture is of the jungle in Vietnam where the war was taking place showing the harsh conditions that you can't see until it's too late if the enemy is coming. The lyrics in the song go "and it was dark, so dark at night, and we held on to each other." That lyric expresses the fear the soldiers have during the night and sitting in the jungle knowing that anything could happen at any moment.

The image shows people taking the corpses sitting from the war and loading into the truck because of the large amount of casualties. Joel mentions in his song "we left in plastic, as numbered corpses." This intells they are leaving in the body bags because everyone is dying and that the U.S. is not strong enough and keeps losing men left and right.

This image is showing the soldiers walking across the open parts of the jungle. It strongly conveys how the soldiers were a unit in this war. They had to carry heavy artilary to make them more fatigued in throughout the song. This represents the song well because Joel wrote how the war was strenuous and that it was a hard one mentally and physically for the soldiers.

It is very clear throught the song that it is against the war. Not only the tone of when he sings the song but the lyrics as well, to the background music that is played that really sets up the scene in your head so that you can further comphrend what it was truely like to be there. This song shows great social dissaproval from the fear that is written what the soldiers were feeling and that they were struggling phsycially because of the conditions. In this song it's written from the point of the soldier so that is the social dissaproval you get from this song.

Billy Joel is an American artist that started his early carrer in 1965. He got really popular though when his album "Piano Man," came out in 1973 and the song was his trademark. Billy made this song because one day him and his friends were exchanging war stories and they encouraged him to write a song about it. He disaggreed with the politcal aspects of the war so he thought "Why not?"

"We came is spastic, like tameless horses" These lyrics are trying to describe what their bodies were going through because of the terrible conditions. The muscle spasims are making them hurt more and more, and eventually not being able to control themselves. Joel is trying to convey that the marines in Vietnam have seen a lot and that over there it's not going well. This song overall is trying to inform the public what it was like ever there so that they can connnect.

"And we held onto each other, like brother to brother" This is that part of the song that shows the soldiers are experiencing this together as a unit rather than just one individual. That was the main things of Joel when he was writing this as his friends were the inspiration for the song in the first place.

"We met as soulmates on Parris Inland" This lyric is the opening line to the song and is truley a strong start to get some facts in right away. France were the ones that had control of the land before. Also he enters a good annlogy of meeting his fellow marines in the jungle. Paris is the city of love so as he says "soulmates" it makes that connection to the city and how much time the soldiers are going to be spending together, that in the end they could be soulmates.

"And we were sharp, as sharp as knives" This is the lyric in the first part of the song, then later in the song he sings "And they were sharp, as sharp as knives." In the beginning of the song is like the beginning of the war going in strong and stayed strong, the U.S. was doing well. But later in the war like in the song the opponet was starting to take over and become stronger than the U.S., that would be because of the Tet Offensive that tramatically changed the course of the war, and put it into the different direction.
