Laika the dog went as a test for the survival during space travel. Laika also went to space because she was a stray and she had already conditioned to harsh environments. Sadly Laika did not survive.

1961- The First Man In Space

Yuri Gagarin was not only the first man in space but he was the first human in space! The Soviet union told him that he has to go to space. Yuri Gagarin survied but 7 years later he passed away.

1963- First Woman In Space

Valentina Tereshkova was the first woman to ever go to space. One of Valentina Tereshkova's hobbies was jumping out of planes. So the Soviets' space programme comittee noticed her because of her intresting hobby.

1969- First Person To Walk On The Moon

Neil Armstong was the first person to walk on the surface of the moon. NASA told Neil that he would go to space to walk on the moon. Neil Armstrong went to the moon in a space ship called Apollo 11.

1971 - First Space Station In Orbit

The Soviet Union caleed it Salyut. Salyut's purpose was to test the dements of the systems of a space station and to conduct scientific research and experiments.

1977- Voyager 1 And 2, Challenger Shuttle Disaster and Columbia Shuttle Disaster

The Voyager 1 was launched in 1977 to fly by Jupiter and Saturn. Its still going till this day. Voyager 2 was also launched in 1977. The Voyager 2 is the only space craft to study all four of the Solar System's giant planets. On January 28th 1986, NASA and the American people were rocked as a tragedy unfolded 73 seconds into the flight.On Febuary 1st 2003, Space Shuttle Columbia disaster disintergratedas it re-entered the atmosphere over Texas and Louisisiana sadly killing 7 astronauts
