Background:

There are no pre-existing studies which have analyzed healthcare professionals evaluation of interprofessional teamwork and satisfaction as well as the association of these two aspects. Therefore this study wants to identify if interprofessional teamwork is an antecedent of job satisfaction.

Methods:

In this multicenter, cross-sectional study 15 medical rehabilitation clinics participated. The data was collected with questionnaires (N=662) which a contact person distributed in the clinic to healthcare professionals. Interprofessional teamwork was measured with the Internal Participation Scale (IPS) assessed on a four-point Likert scale. To measure job satisfaction the item „ How satisfied are you in general with your job?“ was used from the questionnaire by Farin et al. (2013).

Results:

The results of the questionnaires showed that the perception of teamwork is the antecedent of job satisfaction. Moreover, it showed that the perception of teamwork aswell as job satisfaction differs significantly between the different occupations.

Conclusion:
Barriers between different healthcare professionals hinder team work and can influence satisfaction. Longitudinal intervention Studies are needed to confirm the assumption. But the results of the study let assume, that team work and in turn satisfaction can be improved by established mental teamwork model.

Background & Aim: Interprofessional teamwork is becoming increasingly important while treating chronic diseases. This is the reason why institutions and employers should focus more and more on what improves interprofessional teamwork. And since job satisfaction is said to be linked to interprofessional teamwork, employers should focus on keeping their employees satisfied too. To achieve this, fragmentation within health care must be minimized. This study analyses both job satisfaction and perceived teamwork from healthcare professionals’ perspective. It investigates two hypotheses: one, interprofessional teamwork is not perceived to exist, and two, different professions do not share the same level of job satisfaction.

Methods: 15 in-patient medical rehabilitation clinics in southwest Germany were surveyed. Of the initial 662 questionnaires, 272 were valid for evaluation. Two inclusion criteria defined valid entries: all participating healthcare professionals had to be working within a treatment team and had to be participating directly in patient treatment.

Results: The study's findings show that the better the teamwork is perceived to be, the higher the satisfaction. 20% of overall job satisfaction is contributed to interprofessional teamwork.

Conclusion: In conclusion we can say that there are some obstacles within healthcare professionals in German rehabilitation clinics that set the teamwork back and thus influence job satisfaction negatively. It is assumed that it would help to break down healthcare professionals' silos.

Introduction -
Aim of the study and research questions The aim is to analyze the evaluation of teamwork and job satisfaction from the point of view of different perspectives and impacts. The first hypothesis is that healthcare professionals with different professions do not have the same idea of interprofessional teamwork, moreover, they do not have the same level of job satisfaction. The second hypothesis is that interprofessional teamwork is a precondition for job satisfaction.
Methods A multicentre, cross-sectional study design was used. Fifteen in-patient medical rehabilitation clinics in germany participated. A contact person per clinic was designated and gave the sent questionnaires to the health professions. The interprofessional teamwork was measured with the IPS and job satisfaction with a questionnaire by Farin et al.
Results -
Conclusion The study shows that barriers between professionals in German rehabilitation clinics can affect teamwork and influence job satisfaction. It is suggested that breaking down these barriers through World Health Organization initiatives could improve interprofessional teamwork and job satisfaction. Longitudinal studies are needed, however, to confirm this relationship and examine the impact on treatment outcomes and quality of care.
