When looking at the cluster of the coaching stems I had some flashbacks to always trying to be a better conversationalist. I was at an outdoor concert this weekend with an old friend from high school and I got back into my old habit of not paraphrasing or asking clarifying questions. I reflected on this yesterday and now know the stems would be a great visual on my wall in my classroom. I want and need to be better ask guiding through the conversation and asking questions to friends, family, coworkers, and people in public. Rarely can a educational form, sheet help a person in almost every aspect of their lives. The coaching stems is a great resource to have. My coaching tips would be as follows.......Always listen
-Ask good questions
-Be proactive and practice what you are not good at
-Be in the moment teaching, coaching, or during conversation
-Understand your own emotions
-Try to be compassionate to other emotions
-Watch out for the backfire effect
-Find time for you
-Manage stress
-Find humor in most situations
-Celebrate the smallest of wins
-You won't always feel the way you do now
-Build relationships with people

I was thinking I need to put some sort of document like this together to use when meeting with my mentees so thank you for sharing! Our admin used the Charlotte Danielson rubrics when observing teachers when I taught in Dassel-Cokato, so I am pretty familiar with them! On my end, I really like the feedback they offered. It was a great way for me as a rookie teacher to process what was happening in my classroom. I also believe the rubrics pulled out some memorable conversations between my principals and myself. These rubrics cover (pretty much) everything a teacher needs to think about. As a coach, some of the items that are most important for my mentees to learn from me in the classroom are critical thinking questions, wait time, process over product, being able to change direction when a lesson takes a turn, flexibility, formative assessments, and using lessons to guide their teaching. Outside of the classroom, it is important for me to coach on the importance of self care and stress management. In both settings, I would say the number one thing to coach on is building relationships, alongside social-emotional learning.
