In recent times, the world has been more reliant on technology. This is because everything that people could possibly want is right at their fingertips with cell phones, tablets, television, and computers, which all leads to one thing. Social Media! Using social media, people no longer feel the need to get in touch with society or friends. This disconnection is a serious problem; many people are becoming lazy and narcissistic. People just simply tap and swipe their device all day long without a single thought.

Everyday, people send videos and selfies of themselves. Many people use social media to feed their narcissistic behavior. By posting a selfie, people hope to receive admiration and attention, bragging about their "amazing" life. In addition, social media and technology also encourages people to be lazy. Not just mentally- but physically too. Nowadays, any information you need is on the internet. This may be useful in some cases, but students do not feel challenged anymore. With sites like Google, homework is the easiest thing. Students don't have to critically think anymore, their answers are just one tap away. We have also become physically lazy because we lay around all day on our phones. When we need to buy clothes, we can just buy it online. When we need entertainment, we can watch television. When we need to chat with family, we can just call them. This "modern epidemic" is because we are too reliant on our phones, making us lazy and self-obsessed. This is especially important in our society because no one feels the need to socialize or do anything!

Quotations

The book Fahrenheit 451 has an abundant amount of quotes that represent how society is getting lazy and narcissistic. For one, individual thought is to be discouraged stating, "An hour of TV class, an hour of basketball or baseball or running, another hour of transcription history or painting pictures, and more sports, but do you know, we never ask questions... they just run the answers at you " (Bradbury, 27). In addition, "They run us so ragged by the end of the day we can't do anything but go to bed or head for a Fun Park to bully people around, break windowpanes in the Window Smashed place or wreak car in the Car Wrecker place with the big steel ball" (Bradbury, 27). This shows that kids in this world are very lazy, right after they get home, they don't work or go over their notes. Instead, they break cars and windowpanes because they are so worn out at school. But, school isn't even that hard. We learn that they mostly play sports or art. Revealing that technology is making us lazier. It is shown in Bradbury's dystopian world that Mildred is very narcissistic. Bradbury writes, "How long you figure before we can save up and get the fourth wall torn it and a fourth wall-TV put in" (Bradbury, 19)? Mildred doesn't need a fourth wall-TV put in, even Montag doesn't want to spend rhat much money on it. But, she insists to buy another wall because she does not care about Montags opinion, showing that she's self-centered. In our decade, we must all be understanding of each other. Lastly, Mildred betrays Montag and says, "He'll come in and burn the book" (Bradbury 65)! This shows that Mildred is narcissistic because she doesn't feel compassionate for her husband. Once again, showing how self centered she is. In today's society, many people are like this. Hiding behind a screen and commenting terrible things makes people less compassionate because they never experience true emotions, like Mildred.
