A game of telephone is a good way to show students how a story they hear by "word-of-mouth" might not exactly be true. In a game of telephone, a phrase is whispered around a group. As the phrase travels through the group, it is often switched up, from the original message. This is a good example of how word-to-mouth stories are easily twisted around and are no longer facts. The game shows just how important it is to fact check news they hear.
https://www.commonsensemedia.org/blog/news-literacy-101

Prior to reading about news literacy I feel I had knowledgeable information on it. I feel that news literacy is a topic that all children from a young age should have knowledge on. From the start children should know not to trust everything/ everyone on the internet because people can fabricate what they are posting. Students should also know when using sources to check them and make sure they are coming from a "credited" source.

News literacy is something that I have had to work on in the past. I like to read articles on current events, and the media does a good job of making news factuality unpredictable. I believe after this project I was able to get a better understanding of how to spot falsity in articles, as well as being aware of what I am reading. Children today should be doing critical thinking drills depicting the boundaries between the truth and the lies.

Prior to this project I did not know what netiquette was, nor was I being conscious about it when posting/ using the internet. Since learning about and furthering my knowledge about netiquette I feel that I have really been paying attention to my use of caps, my vocabulary, and how someone can perceive what I post. As for news literacy I had some knowledge on what it was, to this day I feel that I only like using sights when doing research with .org at the end instead of using wikipeida. My takeaway from this project is this is such a simple concept but such a prominent one current day. With technology usage constantly growing in the classrooms I can see how this topic is becoming more and more relevant. I feel that there are such fun ways to incorporate this in a lesson/ ways for children to practice both news literacy and netiquette.

At the beginning of this project, I was confused with what words Netiquette and News Literacy truly meant. I now know that these two things play a large role in what humans do on a daily basis. After this project, the idea of Netiquette resonated in the fact that the internet is misused beyond measure. One problem I see often are flame wars, which put people in a very uncomfortable position online. I believe if students were educated on the effects that flame wars have on others, it would be viewed through a much different lens. News Literacy is also something I did not know much about, but understood through years of reading. Students need to be taught the importance of truth and false, and that some things that are being read online may not always be credible sources, let alone reliable. I think this project was a great way to learn more about the internet itself and also how it may effect those around you as well as yourself.

News literacy is a very important skill to have. Without it, it is impossible to decipher whether a news story is credible. As a teacher, it is important to have news literacy skills so that you can verify that all the information you are giving your students is indeed factual. As the teacher, your students are going to trust the information you give them, so it is your job to fact check. It is also important that you teach your students what to look for when looking for a credible source so that they can decipher fact or opinion on their own.

Before this project I had never heard the terms netiquette or news literacy. After researching these terms, I realized how crucial they are. News stories are constantly being thrown at us, and it can sometimes be difficult trying to decipher which ones are actually accurate. By teaching students to evaluate sources, check other news sites, and recognize the difference between fact and opinion, we are giving them the skills to evaluate news on their own. Netiquette was interesting to learn about because it was something I was never taught. When I think back to my social media from middle school, I did not have proper netiquette or even understand what netiquette was. Through years and years on the internet, I slowly learned what is acceptable and what is not. Children nowadays are using the internet at such a young age, it is important to instill proper netiquette early. This project taught me that we need to be conscience of how we are using the internet and of the presence we are making online.

Netiquette: Netiquette is the internet doppelgänger of etiquette in the real world. At a young age my internet etiquette, or Netiquette, was not up to par. Yet through the years of participating in social media, my ability to refine my Netiquette grew. After this project, I am able to see the importance of Netiquette, especially in a world today where the internet and social media are also pieces of information required on job applications. I feel as if children should be exposed to the effects of bad Netiquette and why it matters in the world we live in today.

Before learning about netiquette I never thought about what I was putting on social media/ what it could mean to other people. Since this project I have been re-reading what I am posting and trying to think back to examples of poor netiquette opposed to quality netiquette. I feel that this should be a topic that children should learn about from an early age, that there is do's or don'ts to the internet. The internet is the first source of freedom that children could see and they should be aware of the proper way to post/ proper way to use it.

Everyone is taught proper etiquette. Netiquette is just as important, but not as talked about. The internet allows us to have the world at our fingertips. We can talk to anyone with a touch of a button, and it is important that we know the proper way to interact with someone online. Children should be taught proper netiquette from a young age, so that they can give the good impression they want on the internet. If they are never taught what netiquette is, they could easily have bad netiquette that comes across completely different than they intended.
