A powerful line from Maya Angelou’s poem "Caged Bird" is: “The caged bird sings / with a fearful trill.”

I find it powerful because it captures the profound longing and pain experienced by those who feel trapped or oppressed. The imagery of the caged bird conveys a yearning for freedom, highlighting the contrast between being trapped and the natural desire to fly, which resonates with themes of struggle and hope.

for this, I choose the poem “Woman Work”

The title “Woman Work” highlights the endless labour that women, especially women of colour, often face. It signifies both the burden and the strength involved in balancing multiple roles in life like being a mother and having a professional career

For the poem you haven’t yet explored, share the intended audience of the speaker of the poem. Is it a specific person? A group of people? Who needs to hear it?

For this, I picked "On the Pulse of Morning"

This poem was made for President Bill Clinton's inauguration in 1993. The intended audience was primarily the American public. but the poem's themes of hope, unity, and the possibility of a better future resonated with many people. This poem also reaches out to leaders and decision-makers worldwide, challenging them to acknowledge past injustices and commit to a more inclusive and equitable society. Angelou's words serve as a call to action for those in power, as well as a source of inspiration for everyday citizens who are asking for change.
