1. Weakening public social services through forced privatization and corporate deregulation.

2. Undermining public health by protecting pharmaceutical patents over affordable healthcare

 access.

3. Driving inequality that displaces local economies, leaving vulnerable families without local support systems.

True development begins with community welfare, social care, and human rights—not corporate extraction. We demand a trade system that serves the public good, ensures fair resource allocation, and respects local food sovereignty.

Morgan Ody, General Coordinator of La Via Campesina, took part in this roundtable at La Fabrique de la Diplomatie, the largest event organised by the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs. The discussion focused on the current state of free trade from a French and European Union perspective, in relation to ecological and social challenges and growing geopolitical instability.
